I bought a new Mac Mini (HDMI model) last week to replace an older Mac Mini. I always have to change the Sound Output settings after startup. I'll go to System Preferences -> Sound -> Output and select "Headphones / Built-in Output" because that is how the audio out is connected. However, when I restart, it will be back on "Soundflower (2ch)" every time. The setting will not stay.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try trashing your sound preferences. I had problems with the same type of thing when I first installed SoundFlower, although they eventually fixed themselves.

I was not even sure what Sunflower was. I figured it was a default component. So I searched how to uninstall it and it vanished from the Preferences panel. Hopefully that does it. If not, I will post back here.

Can't restart now since I am downloading iOS4. :)

Soundflower is definitely not a standard component. It's actually an audio extension from Cycling74 that lets you route sound from one app to the next.

I actually use it in conjunction with LineIn so I can use MacSpeech Dictate on the internal microphone. (MacSpeech does not support that naturally)

I'm a bit disturbed as to how it wound up on your machine.

Thanks guys. This looks fixed. I uninstalled Soundflower.

patrick0brien,

It is entirely possible I installed something on my old Mac Mini that installed it. I remember some program I got a long while back that allowed you to stream audio not just from iTunes, but from any source on your computer to Airport Express. That may have installed it.

Sound output settings wont stick

I use HDMI for sound, and everytime i reboot the Mac mini the settings are restored to default (built in speakers), that is very annoying.

Thank god the sound settings regarding HDMI output in Plex stick, but I really hope Apple issue an update to make the the sound settings stick even after a reboot. They do stick after putting the Mac to sleep however.
