So I just purchased a new Mac Mini with a Fusion drive to replace my very old Macbook. I have been backing up my Macbook with my Time Capsule. However, the Macbook is still on Lion since it's so old that it can't be updated to Mountain Lion. I was wondering if anyone knows if I will have a problem restoring my new Mini that runs Mountain Lion from a computer that runs Lion.

I don't know if it just writes the files and programs or if the back up goes deeper than that.

    Thanks in advance.

Also if anyone has any tips about restoring I should know I would appreciate any advice.

Couldn't be easier. When you turn your mini on, it will take you through setup assistant. One of the steps will be to transfer settings, programs, etc. from another computer or time capsule.

Use the migration assistant as previously stated. Just make sure both computers are on the same network (preferably using gbit Ethernet) and follow the setup screens. It will transfer everything! Files, applications, settings, etc. Your Mini will look and act just like your MBP. The only thing I have found is that I have often times had to dig up the application keys after a migration (I assume some of the software is seeing that it is now running on new hardware and invalidating the currently stored key).

Thanks, I thought that might be the case regarding the keys. I have a lot of programs, Photoshop, ms office, eyetv, etc...I'm hoping that all of that transfers over but I guess I'll find out.
