New Mac Mini update before the end of the year? What about a redesign?

Sorry, I'm not in the habit of starting speculation threads, as I don't see the need to since so many other posters make enough already. And I know this is especially early for one, since the mac mini finally just got its well deserved (but perhaps lackluster?) update.

But does anyone here believe the Mac Mini might see yet another refresh before the end of the year? Specifically, what about all that hype about a redesign? I remember reading about Apple R&D reworking the design several (SEVERAL) months back. Prior to the last update, I remember we saw a crazy barrage of mock ups left and right. And yea, that got me stoked. I was really looking forward to seeing what Apple could do with the mini in terms of Ive's design prowess. I mean this is 2009. The entire macbook line continues to shrink in size. I just expected to see the Mini eventually follow down that same path.

Anyway, don't mean to turn this into a whiny rant. I was ready to get the mini, but was honestly waiting to see if the design would change after all these years. I have no immediate need for such a machine yet, but I guess I'll continue to hope for something down the line.

I really doubt it. I'm not expecting a mini refresh until June next year. But then I'm a cynic.

I too hope for a Mini update. The case is OK, I don't want it to be redesigned, I personally just want faster CPU options, that can be simply swapped out/changed. Of course that second thing will not happen, so I'm only wait for upgraded CPUs.

It would be also great, if the upgrated Mac minis would address 8 GB of memory. I know 4 GB RAM modules aren't cheap yet, but as time goes, I think, it will be cheaper.

Considering how long it took last time they refreshed the Mini, it could easily be June 2010, if they decide to upgrade it at all.

I know. That's what I'm afraid of. Argh, Apple!

What are you expecting... black aluminium unibody and multitouch??

The Mini just had its redesign, where it matters... internally!

Thinner perhaps? Smaller enclosure? Come on, you know just as much as I do that Apple can pull it off. Using similar internals of the Macbook, I'm pretty sure it isn't a far cry from reality.

Multitouch? Like you mean, we can pinch, rotate, and zoom the apple logo on top of the chasis? :D

Anyway of course the internals matter. I was just interested to see what they could do with the design after all these years.

There is not much wasted space inside the Mini! I don't see how they'd make it much thinner. Think of a MacBook's dimensions... the Mini is quite similar, only with the optical drive stacked on top rather than to one side. Then bear in mind the Mini sports 3 extra USB, firewire 800 and an extra video out. :p

When the :apple:tv came out I thought "Why? We have the Mac Mini." but it seems this time they've tried to make it a bit more of a serious computer in order to draw a greater line of disparity between the two products. For this reason I don't see the MIni getting any thinner, or smaller, or "living room" friendly, like people wish, with Blu Ray and whatnot...

At best I think you will see nehalem when the notebook one comes out but that seems unlikely cause it would cut in to profit margins, on a relatively new system that doesn't need updating (at least from apples POV)
