Didn’t you know that you tubers need 50k+ cinema cameras with cinema lenses to film themselves talking into the camera with some basic B Roll shots. Definitely need a 20k + computer to edit it as well. Lol.

Yeah but if you rely on making videos for a living then cutting your render/export times by the significant margins MKBHD notes makes a lot of sense.

I did some "window shopping" for fun and just a reminder that if you are a veteran, you can get a 10% discount from Apple( it applies to the new Mac Pro!)

Oh well, back to reality.

Yup. Pretty cool that he's seeing an almost five-fold improvement over the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Amazing. The config that would work best for us is priced at $12,199 and I can't even add an additional internal hard drive (right now my 2010 Mac Pro has 4 internal drives). And really Apple? a 4TB hard drive over (2) 2TB chips and you want $1,400 more for it? A quick Google of 2TB flash drives shows anyone can buy them for around $120.

Sure, these are great for people doing major Hollywood movies and the graphics are going to be incredibly powerful, but the pricing and ability to modify is so far out of wack on this one it doesn't even make sense.

And yes, I am a pro with a 2010 Mac Pro 12-Core 3.46ghz with 64GB of RAM. I was all set to buy one of these but I think I'll have to wait until the next revision and buy one used when the price plummets.

If it was $8,500 and I could have at least my 4 internal drive bays in addition to the flash storage, I would probably pull the trigger right now.

Hope you got your monitor... delivery is now 10-20 days out. When is yours scheduled to come in?

I gave up and tried it on my iPhone and orders were working there, so I got one at 12:08 and it had a 10-20 day delivery window on it. I don't know if there were any earlier deliveries expected than that?

I guess the lower three CPU options are Intel Xeon W-3223/3235/3245 (or maybe closed Apple-only special editions):

For GPU (I only check Radeon Pro W580X and W5700X): (Apple's spec is essential a variant of what stated from my reference)

I don't think small studio will ever need their higher end spec. I find that level of computing will require enterprise level virtualization support, which Apple doesn't offer much. You probably have to buy these expensive vmware software to fully use the high end spec.

They should toss a Mac Pro Edition Apple Watch in the box too IMO featuring a cheese grater watch face.

Anyone else think these upgrades are getting outrageous?

$10,000 for a base model here in Australia. That gets you a 256gb hard drive. I think it’s beautiful, and so want one, but I’ll never own one at a reasonable config.

I can’t believe it ships with a 256 base 🤦‍♂️

I keep adding a $45k config to my cart. The feeling of relief I get when I don't check out is indescribable.

😆

I often do this. You get about 50% of the rush of actually ordering something, without any possibility of buyers remorse. The brain is weird..

I honestly don't understand why people is talking about price. Really? Is money the problem?

OpenGL support? Deprecated (legacy compatibility)

Ok, let's try with a more modern API: Vulkan support? Well, use 3rd-party developed MoltenVK, not officially supported by Apple.

OpenCL support? Deprecated (same as OpenGL)

CUDA support? Nope

GPU raytracing support? Nope

So, well, you can only buy this machine if you'll be using already existing apps (and it will be really fast for video and film editing). But if you are into graphics research, no, you cannot use it (unless you agree to research with Metal, an Apple-only API).

It's not the money. It's the features.
