They may not know either. 😕 I suspect a production/quality problem somewhere either at Apple or a supplier threw things for a loop. If it has been resolved, they can answer your question. If it's still being worked, they are a lot more frustrated than we are.
My guess is that this problem surfaced in late summer. I suspect they had planned to release the nMP in early November after the Oct 22 announcement. By the time Oct 22 came around, they realized Nov. wasn't going to work and they crossed their fingers and said Dec. This is pure speculation, but I've been inside a variety of software projects that slipped their deadlines and I've been close to some military hardware project that had similar problems. My guess it's because it's being build in the U.S.; Probably would have had it by now if we had some 13 y.o. building it at Foxconn.
Hardware problems?
The video of the factory looked like they were primed to go, but now one has to wonder what the delay is, and what bugs are in those nMPs that were already rolling off the production line.

Nope. Might have to give Craigslist a gander after all.
Actually it might improve confidence in the product. Perhaps Apple is sitting on it because they want to ship a quality product and that isn't possible yet. That might say something bad about the source of the problem, but it would say something good about the final product.
If this is the case, I'm willing to wait, but my fingernails may not survive. 😀

If it was being built at Foxcon, we would know if the production line had stopped, and there were a bunch of early ones in the "trash bin"...
I know these forums are all about jumping to conclusions, but unless they don't end up releasing in December then isn't a lot of speculation like this nonsensical?
To a point, but they've basically missed the release date for hardware being available in Dec., unless they are really going to release hardware on Christmas eve or New Years eve..
When there's no info, people speculate, then speculate based on those speculations...

I really don't get Apple's policy here, they are doing themselves more harm than good with this ridicules delay. They should atleast give an update on the matter.
The way i see it: I'm a customer who was interested in the nmp, but throughout these last few weeks i actually have gotten less interested in the nmp for different kind of reasons, one of them is that i just lost my confidence in Apple, kind of had it with the guessing game, every year when a product is outdated you hope for an update but Apple is always two steps if not three steps behind on the competition giving customers outdated hardware thats ridiculously high priced...
I'm sure there's lots of people whom think just like me, Apple is shooting itself in the foot with this ************.

Why must we wait still! It's just about christmas and if they sell enough of them they'll be backordered for weeks.
I think you're overstating it a bit. How can you even label it a delay when they have said it's coming in December? I get the frustration, but I think that's mostly just a product of the type of people who hang out on these boards (myself included).
Technically, Dec 31st is still in Dec so Apple has 2 more weeks to release within their announced time frame.

If December passes without a nMP, then I think we have something to complain about. Until then, we all just need to chill-out and enjoy the holidays and continue the witty banter on here about storage and GPUs. 😀 😛
I really wanted one but needed it in Dec. and gave up waiting. I ordered a ThinkMate with an estimated build date of last Fri., but it didn't ship, so I Emailed my personal rep, which each individual buyer is assigned, and he said it will be shipped this Thurs. Less than 1 week delay due to all of my customizations (had to make it better than the nMP specs to justify it). An immediate reply from a personal rep within minutes with prices and dates. I wish Apple had that level of service.

That smells more like there being a big delay, and they are trying to keep the studios happy. If there were any in the wild yet, we would have heard about it by now.
That seems like a bit of an unfair comparison. You're comparing service from a company that is selling a "released" product that needs customization to a company with an unreleased product. Sure, you may not get the personal phone call, but when it's released the turn-around time for BTO configurations likely won't be much different. The scale of each company also has something to do with it.
He's not saying they're here as in "they're here sitting in front of me." He's simply saying that orders are being taken.

I just called a business sales rep at Apple and was told they are not taking orders yet, and didn't know when they would be.
However, they took my name and phone number and said that they would call back when they were.
If any small business or personal user has been able to place an order, please post when and where it was placed.
