I guess I might as well update since its free.

Does anyone know about the battery issue? I heard the battery life is decreased with lion.

Just get Lion and then wait to install it. SL is more stable and far less buggy, as well as being much more app-friendly. Not all applications run well on Lion yet.

As others have suggested, wait for 10.7.1 or 10.7.2.

I dont think you need to download lion, as long as you go into the mac store and redeem the code and link it to your apple ID it will show that you purchased it and you can download it now or later

I just got a pro 13.3 yesterday with SL on it and after I upgraded to lion the wireless sucks !!! ... I mean I get 1.3MBs max on N, G, B it doesnt matter, numerous channels, different routers, different settings etc... nothing is working

there is a big thread on apples site about various wireless problems, https://discussions.apple.com/message/15843678#15843678 it seems that if you have a broadcom router you maybe ok but if you have a atheros based router you may encounter issues

I just posted this from Lion and it works.

Once you go Lion, you never go back.

They have revolutionized the way you think of a desktop in general. It will change your life.

Welcome to the Mac world!

You have come to the right community to get support!

Unlike Windows, where there is so many changes between the os in every revision.... OSX stays familiar as apple releases new versions of OSX. I truly can say they improve the OS significantly.

I remember how afraid I used to be with upgrades when I was a windows only user...

Windows 98 -to-> Windows 2000 BOSD on restart... repeatedly

Windows 2000 -to->Windows XP ... Wipe and reinstall because the upgrade hosed my filesystem.

XP -to-> Vista......I don't want to talk about that one.... (I reverted back to XP...)

XP -to-> 7... painful...but at least most of my stuff worked once I reinstalled it all....... but the install still ate like 20GBs of my hard drive...

Compared to..

Apple OSX... 10.4 to 10.5...painless
10.5 to 10.6... much faster and painless install, also did I mention I actually gained hard drive space?
10.6 to 10.7... still much improved... even faster... and its the initial release.

I think its a old stigma from being a Windows User.... at least that's what I know it was for me...:)

Upgrade to the latest and greatest, Apple does upgrades right.

If you are a new user, I would go ahead and upgrade to Lion before you get used to SL. That's what I did, and I love it! I had only used SL like 2 weeks before Lion was released and I hadn't done a lot of customization because I knew Lion was coming out. Plus, I wanted to be sure that I got it while the upgrade was free!

If you've only had the computer for a short amount of time, the changes of having apps that aren't compatible is pretty low. I had none that were incompatible. I absolutely LOVE the new gestures that were introduced in Lion! I thought I loved them in SL, but Lion is ever better. I also really like Launchpad and Mission Control.

I am always an early adopter, but I never notice the bugs people complain about. Most people hated Vista, I never had a problem. Upgraded to 7 the day it came out, though, and it was like night and day. Also got the iPhone 4 the day it came out and never had any of the problems that people complained about. Of course, YMMV. You've got the discs that came with the computer so if you upgrade and absolutely hate it you can always re-install SL. Oh, and for your slow download problem, either get Apple to install it for you or go somewhere with a fast internet connection and download it yourself. Took me like 30 minutes on lunch break the day it came out at a local coffee shop. Good luck, and I think you'll love Lion and not look back!

I wouldn't call it a painless upgrade as I'm getting graphic glitches with Lion, IF Apple manges to update the drivers or whatnot then I'm sure it'll be fine.
