My MBP is 2weeks old and it seems to be very hot underneath, today it has been on about 5hrs and the charger has been in the last 1hr and is now at 88%.

Is it normal for it to be hot underneath?

Is a program like this worth it http://www.islayer.com/apps/istatpro/

or can anyone recommend anything?

Sarcasmville.
Macbook Pros get very warm underneath, the metal bottom makes it that way. Also, that widget you linked is free. Of course it's worth it :)

Normal, as the heat gets dissipated that way.

Yes, it is. Especially since it is free and offers valuable, additional information.
