Has anyone seen this virus before?

Was browsing msnbc.com opening news articles in new tabs when one of them opened to this. Upon clicking remove all it downloaded a zip file which unzipped to
macprotector.mpgk

A standard mac installer.

Anyone seen this mac virus before?

Always be aware of what you are opening and where it came from.

And try to remember that any genuine warning from OS X will at least be grammatically correct - if the pop-up isn't then it's a good sign that it's not genuine. "...have detected Trojans and ready to remove them"??

Not with Windows. Most Windows viruses self install.

It is not a virus - a virus installs itself without asking the user.

It is a trojan (as in "trojan horse"); you have to install it yourself for it to cause damage. So just put it in the trash and empty the trash. Don't install any software unless it comes from a trusted source.
