Wow!!!

I remember the old days when you needed a Mac to setup your iPhone.

This reverse setup BEFORE reverse charging on the iPhone is crazy.

Well we do have reverse charging via USB-C. But I'm not too worried about that one. iPhone batteries wear out quickly enough as it is.

But yeah, it is crazy how we went from requires a PC or Mac, to no PC or Mac required, to setting up the Mac with the Phone.

I mean easier is better, but it is unclear how that would apply when you upgrade from an existing Mac.
For folks who get their first Mac or maybe don’t want to transfer from old to new this seems very helpful.

Definitely seems like it's meant for first time Mac buyers who have had iPhones a long time. Simply setting up their calendars and such for them could save a lot of trouble. I am curious just how much it brings over.

I think you've hit on "the why" and you're right it's a good idea

Same, I remember when I bought the iPad 3rd Gen, and I couldn't set it up without syncing to iTunes I believe... correct me if I'm wrong....

I try not to think about the iPad 3rd gen...also known as "iPad" for the first time...to cover the fact they already had a replacement device nearly completed, to ship only 7 months later and absolutely put that device to shame. First iPad with "retina" display, and not nearly enough power to drive it.

But yeah, probably had to set it up with iTunes...

Doesn't this just save a few seconds of typing Apple ID and password to log into iCloud?

Automatically using bluetooth to connect to your phone to grab WiFi details and then automatically sign into iCloud would be useful. Maybe it does that (assuming you buy your MBA and wait until April to use it 😁).
