Good morning everyone.
I am a future apple user, I write from Spain, I use a translator, so I hope you do not find any spelling mistakes.
I was in love with the macbook air 2017, but I decided to wait because of the future update.
I arrived the day and saw with joy the new macbook air. The joy was short when I noticed how the update was not as I expected.
The new macbook air does not carry any update that does not have apple in other products. I think it is an update of the Macbook 12 inches but with macbook air and logo exterior, since macbook air has better acceptance within the users.
Days pass and I read many blog forums and pages dedicated to the product just left.
After a lot of reading it is difficult to draw a clear conclusion.
I am not a professional, so I try to read to make a correct purchase. After reading, I conclude that the new macbook air is a good update but not as much as expected.
The new macbook air is positioned between the macbook 12 and very close to the macbook pro 2017 without touch bar, which is why I have doubts when purchasing my new macbook.
I am in the doubt of acquiring the new macbook air or the macbook pro 2017 without touch bar, and more now that I have just found an offer of the macbook pro without touch bar, but I must decide soon, since the offer will not last long, finding the two products at the same price, including the pro for € 20 less.
Under my humble not professional opinion, I think that the macbook pro without touch bar, is better in all its aspects:
It has better graphics, 15w, better screen. The only thing that fails is the keyboard, but Apple has a replacement program that covers 4 years from the purchase.
However the new macbook air I see it powerful but at the same time no, I think that for a daily use it will go great but without asking much, it can be short of power or it will not be as good as the pro could take it without touch bar, without underestimating it because the air seems to me very good device for what is known so far, also I think the macbook pro will age better.
I did not think it was so difficult to decide for one of them, my use will be user level, some retouching of photos and I hope to introduce myself a bit in the video, but mainly my use will be office, navigation, netflix or similar, photo retouching
I think I'm not the only one in this problem, so I write this.
What would you buy, the new macbook air or the macbook pro 2017 without touc bar. What a dilemma.

I’m in the same boat as you in terms of defunding between ntb mbp or mba. The 2nd gen keyboard of mbp worries me so I’m leaning towards mba. Based on my usage I don’t really see a performance benefit from mbp.

Do not think that it can be an advantage that if you have a problem with the keyboard, you have a replacement program that lasts four years since you buy the macbook?
Regardless of all the other differences in favor of the pro without touch bar.
At the same price or similar because you do not have a better product. The only thing that air has is the touch id.
Always speaking from my humble opinion, I am not a professional.

It only lasts four years since release. So up to 2020

I would wait for proper specs and proper reviews. We’ve got stuff trickling in but I would certainly not make a purchase at this point for at least a week in order to hear what people are saying about the Air and what the final specs are.

I’m recommending a computer for someone and ultimately I suggested the 2018 Air because it has the better keyboard. Also, I don’t like the idea of purchasing the Pro that was released a year and a half ago and paying top dollar for it.

I was just out to look at the 13" nTB MacBook Pro and the new Air. They happened to be sitting next to each other. I was surprised at the difference in color. I picked the same desktop photo and made sure they had the same color profile. Both screens were nice, but the nTB Pro seemed to have way more depth to the color--perhaps more contrast. I did adjust brightness to at least a visual match. Just interested if anyone else has made a direct comparison.

P3 in MacBook Pro versus sRGB in the Air. That's one of "Pro" reasons...

Today I approached an apple store and I put the new air and the pro without touch bar, side by side. I have put the same image on both.
Both screens looked great but the air was a little darker, but only a little. The dark areas looked darker in the air. At first glance, the pro screen gave me a better feeling.

Speaking with the vendors, they advise me that for a user level use, better air, not understanding it since at similar prices any person would obtain the product with better performance. Except that the product with better benefits has one more year of seniority.

[doublepost=1542609489][/doublepost]Yes I experienced the same thing. I am now having difficulty deciding between the new air and the MacBook Pro with the Touch Bar based on the fact that I don't like the louder keyboard of the pro and the unevenness of the sound of the clicking (the air is quieter and even) and yet I prefer the look~the depth and options for greater brightness and depth of the Pro. It is a tough choice between sound, feel and visual. I am a musician so am very sensitive to the aesthetic experience and am really really missing the old keyboard of my pro that got water damage. I am wondering if it is possible that individual MacBook Pro with Touch Bar machines might actually sound and feel different from each other.

Hi Susan I’ve seen in comparison reviews that the speakers in the MacBook Pro are better than the new Air so as a musician this may be important.

I’m trying to decide too but I’m leaning towards the Pro for the brighter screen and speakers l.

Always the Air over the nTB. The nTB has a better screen and probably has a bit more performance BUT

- Gen 2 butterfly keyboard. Gen 3 has it's issues but Gen 2 will almost always be more susceptible to keyboard failure. That alone rules this out. Yes you have a repair program, but are you willing to be without your machine for days/weeks every time the keyboard has a fit?
- It doesn't have TouchID
- It doesn't have T2 security/Siri/HVEC performance and some other niceties it does
- It doesn't have the wedge like the Air, so it can dig in to your wrist

If you’re willing to pay $1200 for Asus EEE PC performance, Air you go.
