how can we confirm that it is the samsung 830 ssd being used in the new macbook airs. Can someone confirm it with a screnshot.

wow! I can't wait to get my new air in the next few weeks. I'm currently on a 2008 HP pavillion. I just geekbenched it, and it came in at a measly 2,400...

Can someone explain the huge discrepancy between the i5s in the 11 and the 13? It appears that they have the same cache and bus speeds so is can that big gain really just be the clock speed? I really want an 11" but that performance difference may push me to the 13.

It was an error in the post that's since been fixed. The chart now shows the proper score for the 13" i5 (6,197), which makes the upgrade to i7 actually worth something (if you need more oomph that is). The 13" i5 is still a bit better than the 11", though.

Whoa, thats 25% better score than my Early 2010 15" MBP gets me. It's got a 2.66 ghz core i7 dual core processor, 8GB ram and a 300 GB SSD + 500 GB HDD (optibay). Damnit, how I yearn for a MBA. I carry my computer around so much I got myself an iPad, hoping I would carry that around instead. But I work as a graphics designer and I work all the time, at my office, at home and even though the iPad is a great mobile office machine, I find myself needing to do Photoshop stuff all the time that the iPad just don't do. I hate carrying my 15" around. It's heavy. It's too big to keep in your lap and it makes me carry these awefully huge backpacks and stuff around. I want it small. I always connect to an Apple Display when I work. So, maybe the ultimate 13" air is enough?

Has anyone worked with heavy photoshop documents on a machine like that? I mean, files that are bigger than 150 mb while closed? Oh how I would love to be able to switch. As long as it doesn't get worse than my current MBP (which does my job just fine, no problem with the performance) I really would love to spend the cash.

And by the way, my MBP had the nVidia Geforce GT 330 graphics. How does that stand against the Intel HD 4000?

I have the base 13inch air, 4gb ram, 1.8 i5, 128gb. My geekbench is 6700. If I returned it and got the 2.0 i7, 8gb ram would I add an extra 1000 points? Should I just get more ram and stick with the i5? I'm a student so the i7 is only $90 more. Would the i7 work better with games? I bought doom 3 and it runs ok with an i5.

I'd always go with the extra RAM as you're far more likely to be needing more than 4GB RAM all the time than using 100% of the i5 all the time. Unless you're doing serious gaming, or serious movie editing, etc. in which case, you should really be looking towards an MBP rather than the Air for the power.

I'm a student, and that was how I decided to choose between i7 or 8GB. But, it's your choice - if you can afford both, then great. However, if it's 8GB RAM and i5 vs 4GB RAM and i7, the former always wins for me. Obviously I'd love an Ultimate Air (just I'd never get the best out of it :D)

Screw it, I might as well max it out since I work 30 hours a week with almost no bills:cool:. Expect the ssd, 256 is good enough.

Do you mean 150MB with no layers at 8bpc? You might be fine without a lot of layers. If you're talking much larger or layers, 16bpc, liquify or warp usage, a lot of comp work, you may not like it very much. Either way I'd max the ram. That program eats ram. There's a lot more detail to it. I'd suggest you do some testing before purchase.

I don't know what bpc is, but I'm using lots of layers. We're talking hundreds. But it works fine on my current computer. What I'm hoping is that the maxed-out Air won't be slower. At least not much slower.

You see, I'm getting an iMac this year to keep at the office but I still need a portable that is good enough for doing some work while away.

I would also be interested in graphics/3D benchmarks. Just want to see how it compares to HD3000.

From Cinebench 11.5:
OpenGL: 17.37fps (vs 11.23fps on last year's i7)
CPU: 2.86pts (vs 2.36)
Single Core: 1.27 (vs. 1.11)
