my macbook hard drive went out and i am replacing it this week. now i know when i sync my iphone to it im going to have to restore it to resync it to my new hard drive. my question is, what will happen to all my music on my iphone and more importantly, will it automatically sync all of my contacts to the new hard drive or am i going to have to write them all down? any help with this would be very appreciated!

Do you have Time Machine back-up?

i wish... to be honest with you im more concerned about losing all my contact than my music... so if i could get some help there that would be great

Have mobile me? If you don't, get the trial. That way Mobile me keeps a copy of your contacts. When your HDD comes, just make your computer fetch all the contacts from Mobile Me and you should be set.
