What is this event all about?

Is it just:
- a preview of the OS4 (or will it be released?)
- about the introduction of the 'iAd'-Thing

If it's just about these two things, the I wonder if there will be 'space for a surprise'!? ;)

I wonder if todays event has a slim possibilty of a 'One more thing' at the end?

Boy, I really doubt it. Though it would be a good way to divert attention from the iPad Wifi and charging issues. One can only hope.

I'm neither doubting nor hoping. After so many past chances to make an announcement or give us a hint, with no information at all, I'm just taking this one in stride.

If the machines are ready, there really is no reason not to announce them or update them at any time, including this event. All eyes are on Apple right now, because of the iPad, and everyone who wants an iPad is buying one. Releasing new MBPs won't really change that. However, given the focus on Apple, releasing the MBPs now might influence people who are looking at them for the iPad and maybe also thinking about computers for home or work to go with it. So, no reason not to release them. If the machines are ready.

On the other hand, even if the machines are ready, there really is no reason for Apple to stop stringing us along and driving us crazy while they wait for people to cave and buy as much of the existing C2D MBP stock as possible.

So, whatever happens happens. We'll all know in 6 hours plus however long the presentation is. ;)

Hmmm....so there is to be helt a Keynote today, huh? I smell MBP-revelation, but I'm a noob to both Mac and interpret Apple.

there is no C2D stock :D

Where is there no C2D stock..

it still says 24hours on the page I'm looking at..

While some reseller have MBPs on backorder, there are still a number of resellers that have shipping times of 1-2 business days and Apple themselves have shipping times of within 24 hours so there is still stock left.

I really hope I know something concrete by the end of the day but I doubt I will.

none i can find in the UK anyway, tend not to look at US/ Auz but all the bigger suppliers have MBP on backorder/ not avaliable over here. seen a few 17" left but not much else.

Yeah I doubt they'd announce MBPs at a OS4 Event.

It would be nice if they did, but I doubt they would.

No joy then. Pretty pissed off now. That's two biggish events and still no MacBook Pros. Almost on the verge of just getting a Vaio Z out of sheer frustration.

Cheers,

No mention of MBP or MP at the event today, even during Q&A, although I think we all expected that.

As much as I can't wait to get my hands on an updated MacBook Pro for the performance gains, I've gone back and forth regarding getting a Win7 laptop RIGHT NOW!!#!#!#!#111

In the end, it's just not worth it. I must remain patient, I survived through the 90s using Macs ;) A couple months longer isn't too bad.

Drastic Measures?

I'm kind of in the same boat. My only problem is, I would really like a 13" MBP, but I am not satisfied AT ALL with the specs of the current ones, and the only machine with specs that I really do like is the 15"MBP with discrete graphics, but that machine is a lot more money than I want to spend.

I've actually started to consider other options. That's how badly I need a new machine soon, as I have work I need to do and my current crippled machine can't cut it.

That is the exactly where I am at. Also, since I own a high end DJ service, my mac is on display to about 25,000 people per year (on average). I need a shiny new mac to keep up appearances!

(However, I can't even imagine going PC... even though PCDJ only operates for PC, a comparable DJ program for mac would be nice. The stuff that's forced on me now is great in some areas but lacks in others.)

Let's go camp out at Apple headquarters! "Hell no we won't go! Until we get new Macbook Pros!"

2:10 MTN time and the Apple Store is up and running... Never noticed that it went down, but it could have for a short period - don't notice anything new though. I highly doubt new MBP's would be released today... maybe next Tuesday, but the OS4.0 preview event wouldn't be related to some kind of hardware update.

it was down for a few seconds, im from sandy!

Try Serato or Traktor  They are both 10 times better than PCDJ and run on a mac.

Maybe...just maybe...

The UK Apple store is showing a minimum of 2 days for standard 15 inch macbook pros...and PCWorld is showing no stock available for store pick up or home delivery on the same models.

I think it may just happen this week...well I hope so!

Not all

bestbuy.com shows all macbook pros 'not available for shipping'

Engadget.com has the story-
http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/09/15-inch-macbook-pros-mia-on-bestbuy-com-long-awaited-refresh-re/

Almost all of them. That article only talks about the 15" models, but I think they are out of everything except the regular 13". They still have that one available and there are 2 stores around me that have it in stock. I really hope the new ones come out this week though because it seems like it's getting harder to get ahold of the current model.

This'll be my first Mac since I bought a Powerbook around 1993;). It's pretty frustrating that Apple isn't a bit more proactive when it comes to upgrading on a regular basis. It works for them but it's at odds with most of the computer world.

It can't be long now - he says hopefully.

I have been visiting this forum for a few months now. I first became interested in the MBP after using my Brother's two year old MB a few times

I have really wanted to purchase a 15" MBP, but felt I should wait for the new upgrade. So, I have been waiting since the holidays.

I am going to be able to get a laptop from my employer to use at work & home. I really wanted to get a MBP and run Boot Camp (dual, using Windows 7 during the day and Mac OS at home), but our IT guy is fighting me, and another co-worker every step of the way. His comments are that Apple is too proprietary, sighting lack of Flash support, and too late to come to market with new processors, and of course too expensive in and Apples to Apples comparison with PC laptops. No pun intended.

We are likely buying by the end of April. So, my only hope for a switch is if Apple finally comes thru this month.

I feel bad for you. It sounds like you have one of those IT managers who gets on a power trip. I work with a bunch of pretty smart developers, and their attitude is the right one: use the platform that gets the job done. None of the arguments he just cited, other than cost, are the least bit compelling. You're the user, and he isn't. My guess is that he doesn't understand Macs (citing Flash as a reason not get a Mac laptop is a non-argument and reveals his ignorance) and is afraid of looking stupid when he gets a support question thrown his way. There are good arguments you could make for not having users get Macs, but most of the ones you listed are dumb.

Fingers crossed that you win. :)
