I’m in the market for a new MacBook Pro 13 inch.

is now the time to buy one or are they expecting to release new ones soon?

thank you

glenn

I don’t think there have been any concrete rumours of a refresh for the 13”.

Allegedly a 16” this month and then the other MBPs get the new keyboard in early 2020. So I’d expect nothing until then.

I would look for a decent used deal perhaps, and then sell it when the newer one comes out. You’re still protected by the four year keyboard replacement program if you time it right, and you won’t lose as much money in resale as you might with a brand new one.

Does the existing 13 inch have the new keyboard?

it has the 2019 butterfly keyboard. Allegedly the future Pros coming down the pipeline will have a newer keyboard with a more stable mechanism.

So then the 2019 butterfly will be replaced ?

Probably, but nobody knows.

I personally think that the 13 inch Macbook Pro's will be the last ones to refresh.
Possible 16 inch release this year, followed by redesigned 15 inch early 2020 and 13 inch around June 2020.

I would wait few days, it’s possible that the 13“ will at least get the Ice Lake refresh.

It will be replaced for sure as all mac lineup but probably it won't happen until mid 2020, new MPB 16" will have a new design but again prob it won't be released until next year according to new rumours.

Apple refreshes their mac design every 4 years so it's time now.

My advice, if you really need a macbook right now buy the entry 13" model otherwise wait until March - May 2020.

For your info I was in a similar situation and what I did was buying an used 13" MBP 2015 for 600€ that works like a charm and I'll sell it next year if I decide to replace it with newer model.

I want to buy the loaded MBP 13”

I’ll sell it when the new one comes out.

I appreciate all your responses.

Health and happiness to all of you.

The "existing" MacBook Pro 13" STILL HAS the "butterfly" keyboard, and although the latest versions are better than the early ones, the keyboard can still develop the same problems as the earlier ones did.

As far as a "new" MBP 13" goes (with the "new" re-designed scissors keyboard), that probably won't be out until mid-2020 (probably 2nd quarter).

I read so much about the keyboards on these MacBook pros. I've only had my mbp13 for a couple weeks but I really like this keyboard, even coming from my 2013 mbp15. From the sounds of it on these forums, EVERY 2nd person has an issue at some point, but Im getting pretty skeptical about how widespread this keyboard failure issue really is. I read about ppl with multiple issues and honestly find it hard to believe that under normal use there are that many defective components being installed in systems. Then the speculation about the new keyboard having scissor mechanism again, I don't know why people are so convinced apple will go back to that and not offer some new 'improved' type keyboard or mechanism. IMO, there's no guarantee there's not some brand new type of mechanism they come up with, both with possible advantages and disadvantages that may bring. I look at the butterfly issues as this. Apple is taking a hit every time they have to do a new top case replacement, they obviously can't be happy about the failure rate but the 4 year thing shows they're stepping up to cover any possible issues and putting the customer's mind at ease (at least it did with me). With a new machine coming out, there's no guarantee it will be a perfect/reliable keyboard and if there's issues they may not be covered at first like all the butterfly ones are now. I haven't had issues so far and hope I don't, maybe my opinion will change if I do, but as of now I love this mbp 13, it's a great system, and IMO, is pretty much at it's pinnacle now with things being worked out due to this chassis first coming out in 2016.

I wouldn't be surprised if apple replaces keyboard only on 15" the flagship pro...

yes I just got a new 2019 nothing to worry about with the keyboard, very few documented cases, and if so all here which makes the issues look worse than it is... just enjoy!!

Saw this in another thread:

The later rumors hasn't really pointed out october launch. However, IF it happens the invitations should get going soon enough.

It’s October. What day are we looking at for announcements?

wish pro 13 s will come with new intel 10 ice lake processors this october.
It’s unlikely given that they just updated the 13” earlier this year. The 1.4GHz chip in the base model was released this year (it is basically a special chip for Apple).

I would expect Ice Lake sometime next year.

Im buying a 1.4 at the end of the month. I can wait until 2021 for any kinks to be worked out. What months have MacBooks been released in? I know the Pro 1.4 was released last July so don’t expect a new base Pro until then but never know. I wish they would drop the “Air” and just have MacBook and MacBook Pro.

I think it is doubtful. The 13” just got the Coffee Lake Refresh in July. They will likely wait until April 2020 to release Ice Lake. Apple tends to wait a few months after the new chips come out to update.

I think they were headed in that direction but the 12” MacBook didn’t sell as well as expected so they brought back the Air, which is basically the Pro chassis with a MacBook processor.

I’m not a fan of the current Air. It is almost the size and weight of the far more powerful Pro but not much more powerful than the 12” MacBook that it replaced. The 12” was the perfect size for an ultraportable. Sure, it throttled a lot, but it was the perfect design for an ARM Mac.

I understand that there will be no new pro 13 in 2019. I ve to purchase one now

1.4 or 2.4
They say battery problems about 1.4 version.

Is there problems with 2.4? As heat issues or battery problems?

If not I ll pay more and purchase 2.4 version
Thanks

True, but now that Ice Lake competitors are out, Apple's offering is rather underwhelming. Traditionally Apple used more rare "higher-end" CPU configs for the 13", so they at least had better GPUs than the competitors, but its just not true today.

Apple tends to wait a few months after the new chips come out to update.

They didn't in this summer, did they? The Coffee Lake R was very fresh as well, Apple was one of the first manufacturers to get it.

If there is no update to the 13", I'd guess the culprit is the weak Ice Lake availability. Apple sells the 13" in millions and they would need a bulk of CPUs to match that.

I’d get the 2.4. Slightly faster cpu, you, ssd, 50% faster wifi, four ports, and better cooling. The 1.4 is a decent machine IMO but I’d spend the extra.
