All the Intel Macs were AC, none of them were AX.

Regardless, we already knew these new MacBook Pros wouldn't be 160MHz. As I explained earlier, there is no Broadcom chip that is Wi-Fi 6 with 160MHz. Broadcom has a 6E chip, but Apple isn't using it.

OK, misread it... But all the Intel Macs uses AC (wifi 5), but all AX (wifi 6) laptops uses 2x2, there is one 3x3 AX chipset is available, just no one use it. Older Intel Macs with 3x3 was on AC (wifi 5) and it has the same theoretical speed of 1300 (433*3) mbps.

Now that it's confirmed that it's AX 2x2 80mhz only, then it's the same as MBA M1, speed up to 1300 (667*2) mbps theatrical speed, and you are quite lucky if you are getting real-world speed of 800-900 mbps, I can only get around 700 on a 1 gb connection.
No one use it ? Among the MacBooks u mean? Because as i told ya ,my (kinda cheap) laptop had wifi ax 3*3 ,and i was reaching over the 1300mbps

Ye ik that it's same as old macs ,still disappointing isn't it ?
Besides the intel's are 3*3 ac indeed ,which gives 1300 mbps.while the M1 macs are 2*2ax,which translates into 1200mbps ;lower

It's confirmed ?idk if I'd call that a confirmation,or did I miss something?

I'm getting 800-900 because the speeds at the router itself are 1300mbps,which is why I was able to get 1200 on my windows laptop (three times cheaper )

Correct they are WiFi 6 2x2 80mhz. So theoretically 1200 Mpbs. Same as every other recent apple device.
What baffles me is that from the inside, it looks like it has 3 antennas, where the MBA M1 only has 2:

Here is the new MacBooks:

Could still be 80mhz 3*3 as we said

Here is the chipset: https://investors.broadcom.com/news...-industrys-first-3x3-wi-fi-6-chip-mass-market

Haven't seen one brand uses it. If you see 1300 with 3x3 in a PC, that would been a AC card.

Yes, gregsapphire had confirmed that s/he has received it, the new MacBook has the same wifi as in MBA M1.

Just setting it up now. Using a UniFi WiFi 6 LR that is capable for 160mhz and 4x4. The theoretical max speed I’m seeing are the same as the rest of the M1 line up. I got a M1 Max 16”.

I can dig deeper after fully set up but looks like the new MacBook Pro won’t be getting an faster speeds than iPhones, iPads or rest of M1 line up. Sorry guys.
so,do u confirm its same as m1? 80mhz 2*2 ? how disapointting ...

Do u confirm that on your m1max ?? What the **** ! Do u have a wifi router that goes over 1200mpbs ?
I have a M1 Max 16”. My Access Points points are capable for 4x4 160mhz but my apple devices aren’t. Under 80mhz they have a theoretical max of 2400mpbs. I think UniFi rates them up to 3200mpbs under 160mhz.

So the bottleneck is the 2x2 80mhz WiFi chip in the devices. Unfortunately apple did not upgrade the WiFi capabilities in the new MacBook Pros.

Nah, all of the AX (wifi 6) chipsets are 2x2, but some support 160mhz, in theory it's double the speed as the one Apple uses. so 2400 mpbs

Edited
I tried 160mhz on my access points but my new MacBook Pro didn’t like that. I can try more testing later but it really only wants to play nice with 80mhz or lower. Showing a theoretical max of 1200mpbs in the testing so far.

I’d love to be wrong and hope others may have their own testing.

what are your actual speeds right now on the m1 max?

System says 1200mbps max. Real world speed test I've done, I've gotten 600-750mpbs down. System monitor peaks at 99MB/s where as hardwired is 117MB/s (I have 1000/40 Xfinity).

crap ,thanks for answering man.btw can u test external ssds? im curious to see if they fixed the speeds compared to m1.i have a mba m1 which i use and both my samsung t5 and t7 have up to 50% slower speeds than on an intel mac...
Hmm good question. I don't really use one very often for my Mac. I have some connected to my gaming console. I can try and test them. If they don't reformat though.

Sorry I won't be able to test this out for the time being as I'd have to delete everything from my SDD, which I rather not redownload almost 2TB of games lol. If I find another one that doesn't need reformatting I'll test it.

Forced by Access Points to 160mhz. After a little bit of work I was able to get the Mac to connect to the AP that's 160mhz. It actually reduced speeds by 5-15% and still shows 80mhz connection and 1200 mpbs theoretical. No dice.

Ok wiped my T7 500gb drive. Took a bit of playing around to get the speeds up and formatted to play the nicest with the Mac. Here you go!

Is it actually only 2x2? I bought a TP-Link EAP245 802.11ac a couple years ago just because it was 3x3. Wonder if I'll end up actually getting worse wi-fi with this thing.

Are those speeds what it should be getting?
I think the expected for the smaller T7 is around 700-900. By there could be variances from size to size and drive to drive. Seems like a reasonable performance for the drive. Could be potentially lower, but I don't have a Intel Mac easily available to compare to. I don't feel "robbed" with regards to performance. Though I don't usually use portal hard drives on a regular basis.
