Hi there,

Are any new MacBook Pro owners experiencing comically slow safari scrolling? There is a huge lag on my unit any time I am scrolling content. It is making the new MacBook Pro feel like my slowest Mac in years because none of my previous Macs experienced this.

I am assuming this is a software issue. Does anybody know how to fix it?

Thank you!

Well noted. Safari is a little borked out of the box, and isn’t working with ProMotion 120hz.

I will highjack this thread because i have the same issue. Maybe i open a new one because its software related but lets try this first. I use low power mode on my mac and sometimes everything is ok but other times safari is lagging so hard that you can not use it. i also tested the newest preview but its the same thing. i found some info on the internet that others have this but there was no solution. Is there something in safari that you can do like delete temp files or something? I dont want to use chrome because of battery life.

I am having the same issue on my new M1 16” mbp.

I have had it about 2 weeks and I did not so by type of restore or transfer to it.

Safari randomly slows down to the point I have to force quit. It slows my whole machine down switching between windows. Nothing in the activity monitor is particularly high when it happens.

Have you tried System Preferences>>Accessibility>>Pointer Control>>Mouse&Trackpad>>Trackpad Options>>Scrolling Speed>>FAST (Also check scrolling "with Inertia" for good measure!)

As a long time Safari user, which was excellent & performant by the time of Snow Leopard, it's appalling how bad it has gotten, to the point where pretty much every other browser, even Microsoft's, is outperforming it on Apple's own "platform". For dev use it has been abysmal for years but now they've even managed to ruin the casual experience as well.

My 2 cents, try other browsers and check Safari back after several updates. Improvement pace is as slow as it can be, and they leave an immense amount of feedback unfixed update after update sadly.
