hi

i've bought a new macbook pro 13'' 2018 and received it a few days ago.

today i've set up a blueetoth headphone and noticed that in the bluetooth settings, there is a device already registered: "tv samsung 8 series". i don't own a samsung tv. was this macbook used before?

the left usb-c ports don't work perfectly, like a defective contact. i've used a usb hub from aliexpress so i thought this is my fault but now i'm not so sure anymore.

Don't bother trying to figure it out .. just return it..

from an authorised reseller. i'm not sure if it came directly from apple. but it looked new, and was wrapped normally.

When you first turned it on did it go through the new computer setup? Selecting language, etc?

Shrink wrap is meaningless, tons of machines on ebay cheap.

I doubt this would happen if it came straight from Apple. Since it came from a reseller, it maybe a customer return that they re-wrapped.

Bluetooth is enabled by default during the setup process. My air lists any Bluetooth device that is within range when Bluetooth is enabled.

is there another explanation for the bluetooth device (samsung tv)? isn't this resetted when you reset a mac?

The Macbook is probably listing all Bluetooth devices that are within range.

Do you have any Bluetooth devices?

It may be picking up a nearby tv. My iPhone wants to connect to my neighbour's Macbook Pro when I turn on Bluetooth and we live next to each other in detached houses.

Turn on the MacBook Bluetooth and look at the available devices. Turn on your Bluetooth device and it will appear in the list as well.

When you see the TV in the Bluetooth list, does it say not connected?

Then I would suggest it's picking up and displaying a neighbor's television.

How far away do you live from other people? apartments? condos? townhouse? house out in the country with nobody within ten miles?

Does it say "Connect" next to the TV in the bluetooth window?

If so, that means it's seeing an actual live device somewhere nearby and it is not a relic of a former owner. The window shows all "discoverable" devices within range, which can be further than expected with current bluetooth devices. It could easily be picking up someone else's Samsung TV next door, especially if you're in an apartment and/or otherwise near where other people live

start Console

navigate to /var/log/DiagnosticMessages

if there're logs for dates prior to day of purchase there's your first clue. If you click on those logs individually and search the string "bluetooth.connect" and it returns positive, someone must've used the machine to connect to a BT device in the past

highly unlikely logs were deleted and device list still instact but there's also that

there is one log from 2018.07.31 but i suppose this is the day of the manufacturing. the other logs are from me.

Nothing specifically wrong with buying from an authorized reseller. Anyone buying from a campus store to get the edu package right now is buying from an authorized reseller. Or B&H or Adorama who are good options as well, avoiding (for now) sales tax for many folks.

I also suspect with the "s" rather than "z", that the OP is not in the US -- which often changes the landscape in terms of system availability, inducing folks to order from authorized resellers in their country rather than Apple.

yes, i'm from switzerland. and i got 10% discount from the autorized reseller, that's why i didn't buy directly from apple. chf 2339 (usd 2350) for the i7, 13'', 16gb ram, 512gb ssd.
