Hi, I’ve just ordered a 16 inch 2021 MacBook Pro, with 2 TB hard drive.

I want to buy an external HD, a bigger one. What kind of HD you recommend me to buy? I want something, if not as fast as the MBP SSD, fast enough to work with out problems.

thanks

Depends on your end usage. If you are going to be working with large files, I'd suggest any portable HDD. However, if your focus is going to be with files under 10MB, then I suggest an SSD.

Working from external USB 3.x HDDs is a regular part of my work day. They can seem slow compared to the internal SSDs (I use several machines, both Windows and macOS), but generally only when opening and saving large files. My larger "desktop" drives (3-1/2 drives with their own power supply) are somewhat more responsive than the "portable" drives (powered by the USB connection) as the latter frequently "sleep" to save power and there is a delay when arousing them from their slumber.

I have a LaCie Mobile Secure SSD connected to my ASD which in turn is connected to my MBP. Very happy with the LaCie drive, it's ultra light so I can take it with me if needed and it's super fast. I bought it from Apple Store as I figured it's a brand that should have no issues with Macs if Apple are selling it.
