It's actually very easy for it to be just as quiet as any other keyboard if you don't smash down on the keys like an enraged hulk.
lol, I'm a touched typist and I don't need to smash the keys though at times, I've gotten mad like the hulk :p

Still, it can be quite noticeable - at least from my informal and short interactions. I don't own a new MBP, so all my opinions are based on how I used them at the Apple store.

It is at first, I think because you're not used to the keyboard. If you go at it like you would any other keyboard it's going to be clicky like a mechanical keyboard (Which most people prefer?). Once you've used it for a few days and realise you don't need to smash each key with the power of Thor's hammer it's actually super quiet.

What I like is that it gives a really nice feedback when you're typing. Over the 'mushy' feel of the previous keyboard. Honestly once you get used to the keyboard it's a really nice design, it's just very different when you first use it. Anyone having any issues over the keyboard, you should give it a proper go for a couple of weeks as a main working rig before passing judgement.

Nobody is forcing you to read it. Guy paid a lot of money and he doesn't like the product it happens

I'd rather wish some hardcore fans would stop posting in threads were people are raising valid concerns
This forum is about MacBooks. The topic title implicates that someone has valid concerns for returning his machine, so it had my interest. Only to find out that it was just someone who knew what he was buying and then decided to complain about it being too expensive etc. That's just a nonsense complaint on a forum like this, especially after the 3478 other topics with the same message: it's redundant.

I don't see how a keyboard being too clicky is a valid concern. Maybe I should return my mouse because it's too clicky too then.

Also, before implying I'm a 'hardcore fan', you might want to read into my post history. I'm anything but a hardcore fan, just done with all these people whining and complaining about stuff they knew BEFORE buying the damn product.

I have not tried the new laptop keyboards but I can't believe apple would drop the ball after releasing this near flawless desktop keyboard.

I have a cupboard full of Apple desktop keyboards because I can't stand typing on them. I've always used Logitech keyboards instead.

I've never had a problem with my 2012 rMBP keyboard so we'll see how I get on with the new keyboard when I eventually replace it (probably when the 2017 version comes out).

As a mechanical keyboard user I love the click and clack of the keyboard. It feels more substantial and meaty. Thats just me though.

That's too bad, I mostly type on a Model M connected to my macbook and monitor, but the old style macbook keys are fine. I'm sure I'll adjust to the new ones.
Honestly people make it out to be worse than it seems.

Doing WPM tests on my Model M and my new Macbook pro keyboard only were a couple WPM difference. The feel is odd at first, but you quickly get used to it.

A keyboard being too loud is a valid concern? Sounds like a trivial concern to me

I think the 'hardcore fans' are more irritated by the amount of people posting "Brought a new computer, and then sent it back!" as it's not really providing any kind of discussion, or benefiting anyone in any way. The OP was aware of the computer before purchasing, and it reads like they just wanted to try it out more than anything, so posting that it's been sent back because of a loud keyboard is helpful how?
I would submit that those "hardcore fans" are far to invested in an Internet forum and need to go for a walk.

Why is so hard for you to just ignore the tread and move on? Truly baffling behavior don't you agree?

I love the new keyboard. The clicky-ness is satisfying, albeit on the downside a little loud. As a touch typist though, it's great - I can type way faster.
