US, January 7, 2008 - Third-party accessory maker Speck announced its new 17" MacBook Pro hard shell case at CES 2008 in Las Vegas this week. The translucent shell will be available in clear, red and aqua colors, according to the company. Similar cases for the 13" and 15" MacBook Pros have previously been available. Available colors for those models include clear, red, orange, black, green, blue, pink and aqua.

"Speck continues to innovate time and time again and today is no different. We're excited to bring the latest addition to our family of industry first cases for the MacBook and MacBook Pro, the MacBook Pro 17-inch See-Thru hard shell case," said Brian Tong, Speck's sales producer manager. "We are never satisfied and continue to innovate, thus adding a cut-out on the bottom of the MacBook Pro 17-inch allowing our customers to access the battery test button. We also keep pushing the envelope by offering a full range of new colors for our MacBook Pro See-Thru case line that will let your personality and flair shine on your MacBook and MacBook Pro."

The case will cost $49.99 and is now shipping. Here are a couple of photos in different colors. We don't normally go for this stuff, but we have to admit that these look pretty sleek.

I don't think it's new because my friend has had the red one for 6 months now.

edit: Oh the 17 inch one. I guess they are pretty cool. Don't know if I'd bother with one though.

They are new, having previously only been on the 15 inch models, now the 17 inch and prospective 17 inch owners (moi) can colourize their macbook pro's too. :D

Why does no-one fully read a post before replying?

I read your post fully. Thanks for the information, but your title is potentially misleading by using "casing" instead of "case" (or whatever), given speculation (or wishful thinking) about a possible MBP casing redesign at MWSF.
