By far the most important thing is for Apple to improve the quality of the LCD panels they're using. They desperately need better viewing angles and a wider colour gamut.

Am I right in thinking that other manufacturers are using such better laptop LCD panels now (e.g. Sony)?

I'd prefer the 9600m GT. Inviting more heat into the laptop isn't a priority, when the 9600m GT does what the already sufficient 8600m GT did and better.

You're kidding right? Do you have any idea how pathetic it would be to have a 9600M GT in the most powerful Apple notebook?.. It barely beats the 8600M GT in performance, which was a lower mid-range card over a YEAR ago.

Nah not even Apple'd do that.

Unless they give the option for a decent graphics card I won't be buying one. I'm thinking something that can keep up with a 8800 (which is a pretty average card now), not even sure a 9650 with 512 VRAM would do that?? That's the only real hardware need I have. I'm quite happy with a 2.8GHz CPU, 4GB RAM, 250GB HD, 15" LED 1440x900 screen etc etc.. Bluray would be nice but I don't need it.

Sure they would and the clue is in the implicit nature of your last sentence. Apple has a history of that kind of behavior even though one has a hard time accepting that they would do it again. I'm going to be an optimist for a few days and hope that Apple will make a clean break from their rip off pricing and limited hardware choices and do the right thing by their loyal customers. We'll know in a few days.

I want to buy an Apple but I won't bend over to do it. My store has got some great new Sony, Toshiba and HP laptops in over the last two months. There are other choices out there at great prices.

I've given up hope on the keyboard remaining the same...if it is the Air's keyboard I'd love it if it was made of aluminum to preserve the all silver look and not have the paint fade away. I'm fairly certain it will be black though, c'est la vie.

Here's what I want added:

A speed bump (check) would be very happy w/ 2.8 and thrilled w/ 3.0! (its a dream I know)
Larger hard drive option of 500gb 7200 BTO (would settle for 320gb 7200)
Ram stock 4gb & 8gbB BTO
Better GPU that will not be a ticking timebomb

Here's what I REALLY want kept the same:

Matte option (and no black bezel)
BOTH the FireWire 400 and FireWire 800 ports (I don't mind the new FW 3200 port being there as long as there's 2 for my drive & interface.

I'm getting less and less optimisitc that either of these options will be there tuesday... :(

I'm not greedy, thats all I need to do my music for many years ahead. :D

this and offering matte would help too.

My prediction:

Model 1:
Intel core 2 duo 2.4ghz (same)
250GB hard drive (50gb more)
2GB Ram (same)

Model 2:
Intel core 2 duo 2.6ghz (0.1ghz more)
320GB hard drive (70 gb more)
2 GB Ram (same)

Model 3:
Intel core 2 duo 2.8ghz (0.3ghz more)
500GB hard drive (250gb more)
4GB ram (2gb more, maybe not though)

Maybe with an ATI or 8800 graphics card to replace the defective 8600 and the possibility of an 8GB ram upgrade.

Maybe they'll make model 2's screen 17", keep model 1 15" and make model 3 19". Hope not though, imo the larger the screen the lesser the portability.

Regarding the glass trackpad, I have an iPhone and, while fingers against glass makes for a very comfortable touch, just look at the glass when the screen is off if your fingers aren't perfectly clean. Maybe they could make some sort of opaque, silver coloured glass or something with the same feel and resilience as glass but that doesn't show fingerprints. My 2 year old MBP does have a slightly visible worn patch on the trackpad, but it's not nearly as bad as my friend's white MB trackpad which looks horrible.

If Apple launch exiting new MBPs on Tuesday and 500GB HD is a BTO option I'll be buying. If not, I'll be upgrading my current MBP with the biggest HD and RAM possible.

Hello,
i didnt find out:
Will the DDR2 RAM from my current MBP fit into the new Montevina one?
I dont want to waste those 4 gigs i have and buy new ram...

No it will not. DDR3 is 204 pin while DDR2 is 200 pin. Sorry bud. On the upside because laptops are starting to embrace DDR3 you can now buy it at places like Newegg and their prices are starting to equalize.

Thx for the quick reply.
But damn!
Apple will take back my old MBP due to non stopping failures and disfunctions.
So i have to bring it in the state i got it but i sold the 2 gigs and bought me 4.
I think i have to buy to more gigs to put it in...
I hope prices will drop soon because i need 4 gigs for vmware!

That sort of thing was $600+ a year ago, IIRC. They're only going to drop faster in the next few months, as DDR3 chipsets for notebooks are becoming readily available now, so demand is shooting up.

In a rush so…

DDR3-1066 RAM; 8GB max
nVidia 9XXX graphics
16:10 - 15" 1680x1050 or 17" 1920x1200
16:9 - 16" 1600x900 or 18" 1920x1080
thinner display, thicker base
HDD: 250GB 5.4K, 320GB 5.4K; 320GB 7.2K and 500GB 5.4K BTO
higher MP iSight
DisplayPort
no "cutting edge"
larger trackpad
easy access HDD/RAM

And finally:
Runs noticeably cooler!!!!

I think it's about time Apple ditched 2 gb ram

4GB standard, Upgradable to 8 GB

I think that the way that they made the iPod classic only one, they might do that to the Macbooks. I think they'll start Macbooks at 2 gigs of ram, and go all the way up to 8 gigs upgradable. I think the 17inch will come HD, with 8 gigs of ram, 500 gig hdd.
When do you think we'll see Mobile Quad core's on Macbook Pro's? Next refresh?
