If it was $1649 with tax in NYC, then isn't that $1515 before tax? Did you get it from a reseller? If so, I'd see if they'd give you the difference back. After all, the base model is exactly the same as before (just cheaper). The 256GB model has the ever-so-slightly faster 2.6GHz CPU and is $1699. If you got it from B&H, they are selling the base for $1449 now, so you should get about $70 back. That's probably the easiest route, particularly if you've already started copying things onto it.

J and R Music....Not too much stuff on there, so an exchange is ok.

i bought the $1999 one on sunday, and just went and had it exchanged for the new 2.6 and got my $300 back lol

Yea thats what I'm going to do at J and R, except I'm going to just pay the small difference for the newer model with the bumped up memory, etc. I guess that would justify my purchase in 2013 for a 2013 machine...lol
