New MacBook Pro Supports Up to Two External Displays With M1 Pro Chip, Up to Four With M1 Max Chip

I know what Apple says but that doesn't make sense. Even the macbook air supports at least 2 displays with one sort of hub (and with a future software update if that hasn't been done yet...)
Apple have always said 2. Where are you getting 3?

so... I've been waiting like a lot of other people that at least one person makes it work in whatever way... that's all :)

Sorry for the position of the quote XD

Because of how they phrase the stats on the specs page. For the Max they call out the HDMI as an extra monitor, for the M1pro they do not. Which to me leads me to believe the HDMI counts as a 3rd external.

My 2013MBP also had the HDMI port, but it wasn't listed as part of the external monitor count of 2, and I can do 3 on that MBP too with the HDMI. So im hoping/praying/wishing the M1Pro will support 2x over Thunderbolt + 1 on HDMI.

On another thread here a guy tried 2 tb and one hdmi but it didn't work... I don't remember the resolutions though :\

No, I tried. I just got my new MBP 16" M1Pro. It only support 2 screens.

Even my old 2016 MBP 15" can support 4 screens, but this one only support 2.

I tried all the three USB-C ports and HDMI ports, but only the first 2 can be light up.

I can't believe this new powerful laptop going backwards.o_O

The ad copy on Apple's website specifically says:

"Connect up to three Pro Display XDRs and a 4K TV with M1 Max. Or connect up to two Pro Display XDRs with M1 Pro."

No need to be snippy.

My Late-2013 MBP also said only up to 2 external displays, and I can connect three external displays. 2, 2560x1600 through the mini DP and 1, 1920x1080 through the HDMI while still having the 2880x1800 internal display on.

It's not out of the realm of possibility to want confirmation that the new ones couldn't do that as well with similar marketing descriptions.

Not sure when quoting text from a web page became snippy.

Would this affordable Totu usb-c hub work for a 2022 Macbook Pro w/M1 Max? I'm hoping to extend to two external HDMI monitors and not spend hundreds of dollars. I've seen both "**Macs do not support dual displays over USB-C**" but also products like these that market that exactly, dual extended displays for Macs over USB-C - https://www.hypershop.com/products/hyperdrive-dual-4k-hdmi-10-in-1-usb-c-hub

It says "Attention:it ONLY supports MIRROR MODE on Apple Mac OS system which is limited by Mac itself."

macOS doesn't support multiple displays using MST hubs which is what this USB-C dock has. An Intel Mac running Windows or Linux can use MST. I'm not sure about Apple Silicon Macs running Windows or Linux.

For macOS, you need a Thunderbolt dock/hub/adapter to support two displays from a single Thunderbolt port for Macs that support two displays from Thunderbolt (M1 Max or M1 Pro or M1 Ultra but not M1/M2).
