Ok, apologies for what must be a stupid question. I just purchased a new Macbook Pro to replace my iMAC. The iMAC backs up to Time Machine.

Is using the Time Machine backup easy to setup the new Macbook?? The thought of having to install all my apps and migrate all my data sounds overwhelming and I'm hoping Time Machine makes this painless?

Apple provides an app to do this much easier. Just connect your two machines, either via firewire or ethernet. Then, open the migration assistant.

It's usually quite thorough.

You can also restore your new machine to your old machine's settings, applications, etc. with Migration Assistant. Just choose "Restore from a Time Machine Backup" or whatever the option is.

I did this recently and it went fairly smoothly.
