I am planing on getting a macbook pro 13" tomorrow as a late christmas gift.

Should I wait for the new gen to come out?

and if so how long would the wait be for a new one?

...

don't wait, buy a used one of the current generation that still has warranty then resell it for the same money if a new one comes out that has features you want. Thats what I did anyway

If you have a hardware that can back you up for next 6 months, then wait. If not, buy now. I expect new MBP by 1st half of this year and it will be most likely WWDC 2011.

I would wait. The boost you will get in the refresh will be much better than the current C2D... at least I hope so... But who knows? If it is absolutely necessary for you to have a MBP, buy now. I would wait. Wait. I would. Would I?

Buy now. As long as you wont feel bad that a newer one is coming out in less than 5 or 6 months. Chances are you'll be fine for a few years with the current hardware. Go ahead and get it now, you'll be very happy.

I do not plan in doing games so do you think I should buy it now?

And you much is a upgrade from a 2010 to 2011
MacBook pro 13"

If you're not gaming and you're wondering if there will be a big leap between 2010 and 2011 13" Models, chances are the 2010 will suit you just fine. Unless you have some uses which you haven't shared with us yet, just grab the latest rev of the 13", if you really are worried, toss an SSD into there as well and you'll be fine for some time.

Future ones will (judging by the odds of probability combined with 10 year market trends of computer progression and standard business protocol) be faster.

Current ones are good. I'm sittin' this next update out. You'll like either. If you are gonna do some heavy graphics based stuff, it may be worth waiting. I, and a few other thousand people on this forum, can personally testify to the level of kickass the current 13 inch MBP has.

A lot of people without budgetary restraint often keep their MacBooks for more than 1 generation which should speak to the quality of them as well as long term capability.
