Not sure if this is the right forum but here is my question.

I have a 17" MCP high res, 2.6 Ghz, 4 gigs of ram and a 7200 200 gig hard drive. The computer was built for video editing I had it built in December of 07. I am looking at either getting a cinema display or a new Macbook. The reason I am looking at the Macbook is this: I use the 17 all the time and I am worried about the ware and tear due to the fact is my home computer and I also use if for work. The Macbook would be my home computer and something I could easily travel with when I am not doing video.
Any suggestions?

I would sell the mbp and buy a refurb mac pro and a macbook. This is what I did recently. I had the 17"mbp 2.33ghz 3 gb ram sold it and got a the set up in my sig.

Work with one

Keep your current laptop. It is very reliable. Use some monies for back-up or Time Capsule. This way if something goes wrong you have your data to transfer to another laptop if necessary.

Two laptops is more of a hassle. Save your money.
