I just upgraded my Macbook to 1.4f12 after I saw this pop up. It apparently contains a fix for the random shutdown syndrome, which may help any of you people out there having this problem. I've never had those issues on my week 24 Macbook.

After the upgrade the fans are off and the Macbook idles at 54°. I haven't noticed any other changes so far.

Never had random shutdowns, but for some reason my MacBook seems to shut down when the battery's approaching 0, instead of going to sleep, at least when I'm running iTunes. Annoying, and I hope this firmware actually fixes it, but it has never bothered me much... ;)

Holy crap  ...I think this may have actually fixed my random shutdowns. I get them EVERY morning and have to do the "hold the power button down until it makes a loud beep" workaround to get it to boot. After installing this firmware it booted up normally just fine and has been on for several minutes. Ironically I just received a box from Applecare to send it in to be fixed for this very issue. I think I'll keep the MB over the weekend and see if the random shutdowns are actually gone with this firmware before I send it in next Monday. I'm one happy camper right this second though. :)

Who knows if the fans are on any higher.. can someone who has installed the udpate comment on this?

I found it slightly annoying that the fans were constantly on low after the first firmware update so maybe they tinkered with some things and made it so that they have no need to be on except for when needed. *wishes*

Since I've installed this, I have not heard my fans once. My fans are at a silent 2500 RPM according to Fan Control and the temp is stable at 53.

As I mentioned, Applecare just sent me a box to send mine in to fix the RSS yesterday. After installing this firmware I called up Applecare and they said that there's no reason to send it in now. Apparently all the techs at the repair centers will do with RSS issues now is install this firmware. So if you can install it yourself, why go without your MB for several days just to have a tech install it?

I have not had a single issue since I installed it this morning and it is running silently and smoothly.

Haven't heard the fans, at all, since updating the firmware (except for during the installation itself when the MacBook tried to take off, or so it sounded). And I've even played a bit of CM4, and that usually makes the fans wanna move... :)

I'm surprised more people aren't talking about this firmware update. Has anyone installed it and had it NOT fix their random shut downs?

Ok, I let my MacBook run its battery down today, for the first time since the Firmware update, and what do you know, it have fixed my little shutdown-instead-of-sleep-when-almost-out-of-battery-problem... :)

Today the little reserve battery notification came up (at about 9%) and a few minutes later, after going all the way down to 1% it went to sleep. Perfect.
