hey, im looking into geting my first Mac after years owning a PC. The guidelines for my purchase are a laptop, relatively budget priced, and powerful enough to handle recreational editing and photoshop use (FCE, Photoshop 7.0). Ive heard that there is an update to the iBook line due this month or next month, and ive got a few questions.
    1. Would the new Macbooks be between the price of an iBook and powerbook?
    2. Will they be powerful enough for the editing i mentioned?
    3. would it be worth it to go for it when it comes out, or wait until about next fall/christmas?

Most rumours are suggesting the MacBook (or whatever it'll be called) will be slightly more expensive than the current iBook. I doubt it'd be so much more expensive as to be halfway between the MacBook Pro and the current iBook though.

Almost certainly. The only issue is that it's very likely the MacBook will use Integrated Graphics. It's all speculation at this stage so don't be too disheartened, however a dedicated graphics card would be nice.

Really depends on what you need, when you need it and what comes out. Far too many unknown variables to make this decision now. All we can do is wait. :)

    thanks alot
and for the last response, i was wondering if apple is known to drop the price a little bt over time like the do with iPods? Because its not an urgent thing, i could wait for quite a while longer

Apple doesn't often drop prices, but they sometimes have specials for deals to get an iPod or printer with a new Mac, that can be seldom taken advantage of with a Rev A computer.

Just keep an eye on the Price Tracker at PowerBook Central and you'll find the best deal, which is usually a bundle from a 3rd party retailer.
