I might be stating the obvious but the new Quad-Core Mac Pro have the same LogicBoard as the 8-Core version? I called Apple and they had no idea.

The answer appears to be no, they are different. It's in the master thread there somewhere, has to do with chipset apparently.

A further complication, is that it appears the the Quad core and Octo core variants are likely using diffent boards.
