despite the use cases for it after a year have still not expanded, the price was a major barrier to most ppl. if it was just above macbook pro pricing it would make sense, but $4K+ with all the add ons and warranty etc that's too much for regular ppl to give it a try. even just as a movie watching device, if it was cheaper i would buy it only for that tbh

I dropped $3000+ on a MBP last year but I can't justify that sort of money on a novelty item like the Vision Pro. What is the point of watching a movie through goggles if I can't share the experience with my family. In that regard, the Vision Pro is too isolating. I would rather put the $3500 towards a 98" 4K TV or 120" short-throw projector that the whole family can enjoy.

0 excitement tbh. where's the innovation Tim? these chip switches are getting boring, a new color isn't enough to distract us sheep. do something psychotic for once.
an experimental line of device to generate hype.
If they make the iPod again, banking on nostalgia from people old enough to remember and the latent want to disconnect from kids who think they’re suffering from burnout, that will be quite the hype.

My M4 MBA originally said delivery 8/18 but now it says delivery for Friday, so I got that going for me.

When I was in college, I desperately wanted an iPod Mini. About a year ago, after toeing around eBay for awhile, I came across what looked like a mint 2nd Gen Mini with the original box and all the accessories. When I got it, it had the name of some investment firm engraved on the back, so assume it was either a corporate gift or silent auction item that someone received and then never used, eventually being sold by relatives or someone who picked it up cheap in an estate sale. Following steps online, I replaced the HDD with a 256GB SD card and the battery with a brand new higher capacity model while I was at it. So almost 20 years later, I rock out daily to my Mini, and everyone that asks about it wants to know if they can get one too. There is absolutely still interest in the iPod, and if Apple can release a stupid coffee table book for ungodly prices, they can release a limited anniversary edition iPod with updated internals, and the hype train would fuel itself.

People are so spoiled. Just 5 years ago, for decades we enjoyed 5% performance gains yoy. Now a solid 20-25% every year turns out to be too little. It's worth having perspective, the MBA M4 is already as strong as the 14/16" M1 Pro/Max in everything except graphics, which is also only ~50% weaker despite having only 1/3 cores. A machine that is silent and so light.

Ordered my Sky Blue M4 MBA last night. My 2020 Intel MBP is slower than even my M1 Mac Mini 8GB/256 that I have in the studio - really noticeable on video editing - so I'm looking forward to the new Mac - even though I'll be sorry to see the end of the touch bar.

ipad base model arriving at midday. can't wait.

upgrade from Gen 9 which is trickle down to family.

Germany: iPad 11 arrived, but having problems bringing the device to work: There was an available software update announced during setup, which failed (progress bar didn't even start). Eventually I tried DFU mode but there seems to be no software for this new device on Apple's servers:

I would definitely buy an iPod touch 8 ! It would be a great device for testing and more… Just take the iPhone 16e : remove cellular and sos features/satellite, remove some other things and boom you get a cheap device which can be used for many many things…

I picked up my preorder blue iPad Air 11 inch (M3) at Best Buy this morning. I went with the Wi-Fi 128 GB to replace my 4 year old green iPad Air 4th Gen. 64 GB. My iPad has always been my “around the house” device so it’s a nice upgrade. One change I noticed over the M2 (and previous versions) is the iPad Air branding and model/serial numbers have been taken off the back of the unit. It just has an Apple logo on it now.

Out of curiosity, why were you planning to trade from an M3 Air to an M4 Air? Do you just like having the latest and greatest, or was it something else like support for 2 external displays or Center Stage?

A fair question...I am going to be more mobile than I was before so I wanted the larger screen. I also needed more memory for my Windows 11 VM for running SolidWorks.
