The latest magic keyboard has been atrocious. From being unstable while laying flat on a surface, to using inferior materials that degrade at the sides.. I had to replace it this past week through apple care. The stability issue is actually a bigger deal than it is and I've only seen a couple reviewers ever mention it. Your ipad is going to end up flipping over with a gust of wind
I’ve only tried it in stores, but another glaring problem is the lack of a notch at the edge to open it like MacBooks have. At least the old one had the silicone edge to grasp

  • Wizardy Keyboard?
  • Enchanted Keyboard?
  • Sorcerer's Keyboard?
  • Voodoo Keyboard?
  • Supernatural Keyboard?
  • Bewitching Keyboard?
  • The Devil's Keyboard?
Append some suffixes like PRO, MAX, ULTRA, etc and maybe even irrelevant ones like Liquid Retina XL Mach 3 to offer largely the same thing at an even higher price. Maybe put one special button on this one so we can focus on that clear distinction advantage vs. the normal ones?

All ;)
Wizardy Keyboard 😄😄😄😄

I love my 2024 Magic Keyboard. I went white on white, and so far it’s held up well. I did an identical setup (space gray on gray) when the 2020 iPad Pro was announced, and I much prefer this one. The hinge feels far more solid, full speed charging through the keyboard USB-C port, the function keys, but most importantly, the larger trackpad make the keyboard much more usable. It isn’t great using it in my lap. I have to keep my feet up on the ottoman for it to be a semi comfortable experience.

If they fix the wobble from the Pro keyboard, the non-pro will be better in every way. If the don't fix it, they ignore known flaws to not upstage the Pro.

Dont know which is worse.

PS the wobble wasn't present in previous versions of the Pro keyboard.

Uh oh. Please tell us more. What parts/materials degraded? Is the aluminum palm rest not enough to balance the weight of the iPad?
I think it's a very delicate "balance point" issue. On the new version it's just slightly off-center, so it doesn't sit well or it has a lesser tolerance for tipping over.

The old one you could bump the iPad pretty hard and the key-part would still lie securely on the desk. With the new one you can take a pinky finger and get it to a tipping point by brushing the iPad. It's like it WANTS to tip over, but only wants to scare you. But it's extremely annoying actually. Feels less..yeah less premium

Expecting to see the new iPads and Magic Keyboard along with the 18.4 update sometime in April. Expecting the keyboard for the Air to get costlier.

Trackpad can just go away unless they want to update iPad OS to have better mouse/pointer support and/or let us run MacOS.

There needs to be much more range to the tilt angle and better ability to position and support the iPad, while attached to the keyboard, for drawing and doing more pencil-oriented tasks.

Not going to hold my breath though... Took nearly a decade to get a damn ESC key.

I like my 11" M4 iPad (2TB and cellular) with Apple's keyboard. I used the Brydge key boards on prior versions and they worked well. However, when open the operational depth of the Brydge is too deep for the the airlines and with a 12.9" iPad is even worse.

Please just let us have a pro keyboard without a trackpad - i hate having the screen further away from my eyes.
The balance is the real issue for me. The trackpad is awesome and definitely a pro feature. Very useful for apps like numbers/excel...

How are you sitting with the iPad such that no trackpad would let you get it closer to your eyes? In my use case it is usually on my lap or a desk, and never further away than a traditional laptop anyways.

No problems here except the balance, which really requires you to be very careful not to let your iPad tip over backwards.

I also am a bit paranoid about the longevity of the keyboard's O ring that protects the iPad screen. so I do not transport my iPad in the magic keyboard case, I transfer it to a folio and leave the keyboard in "high use" areas, except if I am traveling. It is simultaneously rugged and delicate, especially with the nano texture screen.

The O-ring should be fine, we've had them on MacBook Pro lids since 2008.

the o ring on my laptop is totally worn out...they are absolutely not fine. This is also a smaller O ring. And it is in an area where you drag your hands and various materials across the keyboard, instead of on the screen where it usually only gets touched when opening/closing. The O ring is absolutely a weak point of the magic keyboard.

Edited to attach a picture... This combined with the AR coating issues on the screens has plagued MacBooks since 2008. Endless threads here and on apple support forums about this and even technical service bulletins. Feel like it's groundhog day somehow!

Wait, what will change vs the one they just launched?? I’m about to order my wife a 1TB 13”, Pencil Pro, and Magic Keyboard for her photography work/personal computing needs…as in like about to order this week.

Assuming you mean an iPad Pro, that keyboard isn't going to change. The iPad Air uses the older Magic Keyboard that the 2018-M2 Pros used, and that's the model due for replacement.

Oh my! That does sound bad and much less premium. Hope they fix that.
