What if they were to make a new magic keyboard with TouchId built in? That would be amazingPeripherals aren’t due for a redesign. Maybe the magic mouse with its charging port underneath but I doubt it will be within the next two years.
Desktop will never have Touch ID. This imply embedding a T1/T2 chip into the keyboard, ensure communication between computer and keyboard is secured ... increase price of keyboard... It's a lot easier on laptops than desktops.Touch ID on AS Macs could possible be a reason for redesign. I don’t think all Macs will get Face ID, like the Mini and Mac Pro?
It’d be an open invitation to hack the protocols used to enable user access via a signal from the T2 chip. Apple would have to design a slimmed down Tx chip, as the T2 chip handles SSD access, FileVault encryption, and video en/decoding, on top of whatever else it does. That would be massively overkill for a keyboard.Desktop will never have Touch ID. But the keyboard for the iPad is already about $300, Current magic keyboard with full numeric keypad is 150$, Perhaps Apple could design a new magic keyboard for the iMac with TouchID for 300$ as well which is double the cost of the current magic keyboard but would be totally worth 300$Desktop will never have Touch ID. And nobody will be willing to pay 300$ for a keyboard, even if it supports Touch ID. Anyway, power users don't use Apple keyboard. Most use mechanical keyboard or third party keyboard. But the keyboard for the iPad is already about $300, Current magic keyboard with full numeric keypad is 150$, Perhaps Apple could design a new magic keyboard for the iMac with TouchID for 300$ as well which is double the cost of the current magic keyboard but would be totally worth 300$
