Just took delivery today of my new MB Pro M1 w/ 10 core w/ 1TB SSD. I read on this forum and elsewhere that if you use your Costco Citicard they add an additional 2 years onto the warranty. This is no longer the case, as I was told when I picked it up today. You can still get 2% on your cash back for using the credit card though. Just a heads up.

Thank you! It took me a couple minutes to find it but alas it's under "Shopping Benefits" and it's there clear as day. I couldn't find the information on the Costco website. I'll be calling the 800 number on the Citicard site and/or the Concierge number from Costco to ask about getting a hard copy of the warranty. I'll report back what they say.
 
So I just got off the phone with Citicard Benefits Dept, told her what Costco said about the 2 year extension no longer being offered. She told me they are still offering this benefit, that the info on their website is still valid, and that they have no plans to discontinue this benefit. She is sending me paper documentation per my request.

I called Costco to let them know I was misinformed at the store, and told them what Citicard said. The Costco employee seemed to recall an email their management received indicating that the Citicard 2-yr warranty extension benefit was ending at some point (she wasn't sure exactly), and therefore they stopped actively promoting it in their stores and on their website. She said she would bring this issue to the attention of management at their store.

If anyone is thinking of purchasing a new Mac at Costco in the future, I would definitely check the Citicard Benefits on their website or call them beforehand just to make sure.

Yes, it’s great advice to do a little homework despite what some big box clock-puncher says about another company’s policies.

One nice thing about this thread is that I didn't know who provided the guarantee. I had assumed that it's Costco.

For anyone that has had to do a warranty repair, what was the process like? I've bought all of my new Macs from Apple so never had an issue with warranty or out-of-warranty (free or paid) repairs.

Apple covers the first year. Costco covers the second. Citi covers the third and fourth.

So since Costco has 4 year warranty you didn't have to buy Apple Care?

No,but I may. They are not identical. The Costco warranty is not carry in like at the Apple Store, and it doesn’t really provide the kind of tech support that you get with Apple.

Yeah, from what I've found the first two years are ok (Apple, then Costco Concierge), but the third and fourth year are a pain since you have to file a claim and get approval from Citi before repairs.

I think I'm still going to skip Apple Care though since plan on using my MacBook mostly around the house and never had to use Apple Care before for any of my devices.

That’s good information re years 3 and 4. I’m using my new MB Pro mostly at home as well, though a couple times in the past Apple Care paid for itself after a logic board failed and a screen on an older PowerBook started developing shadows and had to be replaced.

I’ll decide re Apple Care before 60 days are up.
 
UPDATE: So in my conversation with Citicard on the phone last week, I requested they send me paper documentation for the extended warranty. Today I received a response to that request, inside my account, and this is what it says:

"Important changes are coming to some of your Card Benefits.
These changes are not reflected in the enclosed Guide to Protection Benefits.
The following is a summary of changes that are being made to your card benefits:
Effective January 22, 2023, the Extended Warranty benefit will be discontinued and will no longer be provided for purchases made on or after that date. Coverage for purchases made before that date will continue to be available, and you may continue to file for benefits in accordance with the current benefit terms.
We are making these changes so that we can continue providing the key benefits that our customers use and value most at no additional cost. This change requires no action on your part. If you have any questions, please call the number on the back of your card."

So, it appears the 2 year extended warranty is no more, and it appears the Costco guy was right.

I'll be purchasing Apple Care next month.

Blueser, your better off buying the Allstate warranty, its $100 bucks and no deductibles. the only downside is they have you mail it in (at their cost) so you cant get the same day service apple offers, but you save ton.

The problem with Allstate “warranty” is that they try to weasel their way out of any coverage. Their repair shops motto is to find any way to blame the consumer. That‘s sad they’re getting rid of the extended warranty, but they’re also one of the last to do it, as discover/amex have already gotten rid of theirs. It’s the sign of the times I guess where you’re paying more for everything and getting smaller portions or worse service.
