Hey, I just burned my 1st DVD on my MBPC2D and the speed said 1X or 2X but I thought is was a 6X?? Is it Apple being sneaky again? 6X CD 2X DVD or something like that?? Just curious.
PS. I did burn from an external USB 2 drive if that has anything to do with it.
Thanks

I doubt anything sneaky is going on, my iMac (though it is unrelated to the MBP) burns at 8x. When you burn, it slowly moves up to 8. It started at about 5x, and over about 20 seconds it makes its way up to 8 when burning DVDs.

I can second this that it is wrong. Mine is 4x but often gives me options only for 1 or 2x for some reason. I'm not too fond of that. The Disc's are TDK rated for 1-8x.

I find it hard to believe that they would over advertise that bad... I'm hoping I'm either reading it wrong, or I'm setup wrong.
1X 2X for DVD burning is like late 90's technology isn't it????

I don't remember CD burners even existing before about 1998 😕 let alone DVD burners. Oh well.

Well, it is the MBP optical drive itslelf, that burns at 6x. Your external drive may be slower or faster.

Just tried an experiment...
I went to burn some pics I had stored on my MBP hard drive and the option of 6X came up. So I guess my external slows it down. Moral of the story...
Drag to your desktop before burning I guess.
