I think your first step would be to update to current version Logic Pro X (now ver 10)
It seems to be running just fine on my early 2009 mini with 8gb RAM. It was a dog with 2gb (Mountain Lion seemed fine running Logic with 2), but it's been smooth with 8.
Upgrading to Logic X requires a fresh purchase. I don't think the fake drummer is worth it. I'd rather program my own. I also don't like the look quite as much as 9.
