Still no luck. It is as if it does not recognize the camera. I tried resetting it. Nothing. Could be a USB3 problem for now... I'll keep playing around with it.

Of course. I'm having too much fun on the Pro. Then to unpack the new Air and compare the performance. The externals are pretty much the same between 2011 Air and 2012 Air.

++++++++

At this point I am sure I will return the Pro. The only thing to admire here is the pixel density. It looks amazing sure, but there is a huge lack of support for apps that I use. And god knows when they will be updated. I spend most of my time on the browser and in apps, and if they wont look great then I see no point in the retina display for now. Besides, I will let others enjoy the first generation retina displays and create retina optimized apps and sites for me. Next year I'll just upgrade to the retina air and get the best of both worlds: wedge shape and retina optimized apps/sites for my retina display. But I will still play around with both and keep posting anything I think potential buyers, specially the obsessive ones like me, will find useful in their decision making.

Money is not an issue for me. I sure love the display, but due to the lack of retina optimized apps/websites and wedge shape, I feel more confortable with the Air experience for now. I mostly surfe the web and work on photoshop, which the Air seems to handle just fine. I play Diablo 3 and League of Legends occasionally and I don't care much for the best graphics. The lowest settings work just fine for me.

Where did you hear that the airs were going to get retina screens, or do you believe that's just going to be the natural progression?

You are returning it because it doesn't have a tapered design?

Wow

It looks like the OP bought both to figure out which one he wants, and he prefers the MacBook Air because of the design. What's wrong with that?

Looked at your side-by-side photo and saw literally no appreciable difference in text, imagery or appearance in general. Either your camera is not high quality, or...something.

Really? Even in those photos, i can tell a big difference in the text quality. The air looks jagged and blurred...the retina looks smooth and crystal clear. I'm sure if i can tell in a photo it is more noticeable irl.

Wth is this OP whining about? Design?

Just get out now troll... Really, get a life...

Crave attention elsewhere, I have both, and both are sexy and machines of beauty.

I was going to repost your post with [timg ]...[/timg ] tags, but your photos are large and maybe it's Steadfast Networks that's slow, but it's not fun clicking on each photo especially when they're over 3 megs each.

Natural progression of course. You can't really believe that Apple will stick with a non-retina display forever. I think 1 year is enough time for the engineers to come up with a design that can support a retina display in the Air.

Just how silly would it be if Apple has:
- Retina iPhones
- Retina iPads
- Retina MacBook Pros
- Non-Retina MacBook Airs << HIT: The odd one...

I gotcha. I may create thumbs and include those linking to the images.

Doubt SteadFast is slow. The servers are in Equinox chicago and backed by tier1 carriers. Takes about a second for a 3mb photo to load for me and I'm in San Fran.

yeah, and multiple large photos at the same time, my work internet is running at 10Mbps down and 9Mbps up today and they weren't downloading that fast, but yeah I think a thumbnail of each would be nice. That way we can choose what ones to look at.

The fact that we will see those danged restocking fees reappear for people returning for legitimate reasons... that's what.

I just don't think it'll progress to all the macs until Apple can do it and still hit the same price points, unless they're willing to take the hit on the cost of displays.

A Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XTi is a very nice camera.

Thanks for the pictures. The difference is indeed very noticeable

I added thumbs to the OP. Much cleaner now!

I doubt it. Apple is making it easier and easier to buy from their store. Heck, how many other retailers would leave a bunch of $50 peripherals on a shelf and let you purchase them from your phone, and walk out without showing anyone the online receipt? How many would let you do that even with showing them the receipt?

The main reason to buy in store and offer a generous return policy is to reduce the risks to consumers of buying their products. Apple makes high margins, and can afford a few returns. That's deliberately part of their strategy.

Well, if a year from now the retina displays don't exist for the Airs, which I highly doubt, then there will be a second generation pro to buy. Which will certainly include a retina display and all the fixes to the problems that the first generation may have.

Furthermore, if you crunch the numbers, the rising demand for the retina displays and ramped production will bring down the cost of supply. Apple could also drop it's profit magin by 5-10% for a year until the demand is even higher which will eventually bring them back to their 30% profit magin standard.

I feel very confident Apple will release a retina display for the Airs next year. First they roll out with the Pros, for Pros to do their Pro work. It will then hit consumer a year later. Especially with the huge demand. Apple has to be on the cutting edge at all times. :)

Wow those Diablo screens look bad ... Or is it just me?

OP can you share your settings?

My apologize! I had it in 2440x1600!

I updated the settings and took some new screenshots. You can find the new pictures in the OP.

Here are some pics of the fight between Diablo and me (spoiler alert) with maxed out settings. Most visual effects take place in this part of the game.

Considering the resolution that doesn't seem so bad, wish they could've put a higher end video card in.

I honestly think that the heat generation held them back. On high settings this gets extremely hot and starts freezing. I mean they poked 6 large holes in in the body just to allow for air intake, and despite that it gets so hot to the point of freezing. You could always play with max settings in an igloo or your refrigerator. It just doesn't seem to work well in everyday situations.

The laptop should conform to you. Not the other way around. This is why I will be returning the Pro. And it's mainly because it lacks the wedge shape, which doesn't conform to the way my hands/arms rest on the thing. The Air serves me like a perfectly in this regard. It also stays cool.

Honestly if you want a gaming setup I would build one from parts from NewEgg. Run windows on it and you can play all the games you want and go crazy on video cards. For an everyday laptop to do non-gaming things, there is always a MacBook for you!

Yup, that's about the best way to get an awesome gaming experience.
