Leave the spider alone. He is just hanging out and will not harm you.
Be sure to put some ants around so he will not get hungry.

Yeah, and if we were bite sized and found our way onto a spiders web, the spider too will just like to "hang out" and talk about the latest stock quotes and hurricanes :)

OP, FWIW, last time I was in my MBP , it looked like the keyboard is sealed off from the logic board. Probably not enough to prevent massive spills, but there is a thick black coating on the keyboard module separating it from the logic board.

This thread is way too funny.
Most entertaining.

I was trying to think how I would get rid of a spider under my keyboard.

Ideas that come to mind:

- Remove the keyboard. Then remove spider from keyboard.

- Put some spider food nearby. Probably a lame idea.

- Compressed air. Might just make it worse.

- Take the computer apart and shake the spider out.

Maybe apply a bit of spidey pheromone (available in the pesticides department of the AppleStore) just above the keys and then brush the horny bugger off your machine when he/she rushes out.

maybe I should start another thread on the market section for "WTB a can of iPheromone "

Ahhhh, but cursed they were!

How else can you explain sploogy goose juice from two projectiling across the room and landing right on the keyboard?
Just to name one of the many instances...don't kill the spider.

well can't explain really. I am faithful man and won't do any thing to harm the little bugger in my keyboard. Although I might appear giving more concerns on my MBP.

He/She might be picky on the food, I can tell, since he/she chosen a Apple product to hide.

appreciate that

Turn on photobooth, put a huge file in the trash and do a secure empty trash, open up safari and start three youtube videos up at one time and let her rip! That bugger'll get so hot he'll be forced out by the heat and fans. Not joking.

Take to the Genius Bar and just hope you stumble upon someone who is absolutely terrified of spiders and hope they give you a new MBP. Then ask them to upgrade for all the trouble you went through...

Seriously, do what NC MacGuy said.. let it Burn baby, Burn..

Hilarious thread :D

He's cold and the Pro is clearly like a brand spanking new central-heated apartment. Don't burn him! He might not notice and end up toasted - like the whole amphibians in water gradually brought to the boil thing.

Hum him the Spider-Man song and watch him become unable to contain his enthusiasm. He'll tap dance right outta there!

Maybe we should name him...

Start encoding some video, and after an hour or so he'll be toasted to a wee dot, no more noticeable than a wee bit dirt underneath your keyboard.

Take it to the Genius Bar and find someone with arachnophobia as someone suggested, and until you get a brand new MacBook Pro taunt them with the spider (i.e. OMG there it is, it's on your finger, it's a black widow, etc.)

On a more serious note, launch a lot of intensive applications, it will get so hot the spider will either die or leave, hopefully leave.

You have to give that spider credit though, he got good taste :)

Keep us updated

ah, nearly forgot our shinny laptops are also part of the central heating.

I decided to turn off lights in my room and let the keyboard backlit turned on, so that I can start to track its movement.

encoding video on visualhub while working on the shots in Lightroom, right, now i can see its legs are underneath F4 keys, weird.

the iSpy ?

iSpy, haha. Did the vacuum end up working?

Edit: Awesome, if it comes out, let it leave the desk and hope it didn't lay eggs :p

See if you can hear crackling. Write down any last words, and put them up in the attic for the family to read.

You might get a few flies buzzing around in glee.

I think we have made some progress guys, it is moving towards right side of the keyboard, presumable away from the harddrive.

Lmfao this has gone on for so long hahahahaha:D

Once in awhile I have the same problem as you, although instead of spiders I get black ants. They like the warmth of the MBP and feel nice and toasty underneath the keyboard.

What I do? Absolutely nothing. I've been pretty lucky, they leave of their own accord and visit less frequently now. It's also funny when I have no lights on at night and am using the computer and gnats just love the light of the LED screen.. :p

Take the key off, remove spider, replace key.

The logical approach, I like it.
More like: take key off, spider runs to adjacent key, take off next key, etc..

Unfortunately, life defeats logic every time. Almost.

It's clearly a very clever spider for choosing to live under the 'escape' key, it will always have a way out.

Now, if only it could be persuaded to move to underneath 'delete'...

Oh, yes, "delete" gives a whole new set of preferences here. Good idea, though. Not sure the spider would approve.
If the porn doesn't work you're
screwed

Spiders go for presents, nicely wrapped in silk, not porn, that is, the female ones do. The males are more, shall we say, single minded, in fact, sometimes, suicidally so.

Leave the spider alone. He is just hanging out and will not harm you.

Hm, yes. Tell that to the fly.

can't spiders be apple fans too? :D

Of course they can; discerning creatures.

Yes, an excellent and novel way in which to empirically test the whole issue of over-heating MBPs.

This is a hilarious thread - haven't laughed so much for days. Let us know the outcome, we await with bated breath.
Cheers and good luck

Ha, it is GONE

haha, hell yeah, it shows only smart creatures love Apple :p

just woke up in the middle of the night, checking keyboard now, one by one

The MBP has been modestly hot since last night.

Ha, it is not here anymore, can't see its legs under any key. I (like to) think it is gone by now.

or it might just crawl into the inside of the MBP, but for now I am not worried, as someone said earlier it is unlikely....thanks, you make me feel better  , you all did

MysticMage: I didn't manage to borrow a vacuum at the place I am staying. But thanks for the help and the concerns for our mutual friend. ;)

Have a nice day guys, and share the story with your colleagues
