well i just ended up upgrading to the 460 and 2.7 since it was only 100 dollars. Apple doesn't verify education discounts if you order online i guess and i do plan on going back to school in the next 6 months so i don't feel bad. So i saved 200 and cancelled my original order and will wait 2 extra weeks.
Good, 4GB of VRAM is important for GPU acceleration in lightroom (provided that Pro 450-455-460 are supported which I haven't checked)

Yeah, I don't think it will be. It's a gimmick. That touch bar will not speed up work flows over a mouse and keyboard shortcuts.

How do you know that without even trying it?? I suspect it will be one of those things that will seem odd at first and then might come into it's own down the road.

I think after a year or two of folks using it we will have a good idea of what it is all about. Until then it is speculation...in my opinion.

I'm sure there will be some usefulness, especially when travelling. But keyboard shortcuts are proven, super fast, and you can do them without looking at the keyboard - which you can't do very well without the touchbar. You barely have to move your hands or reach for a tiny screen when you have shortcuts mastered.

Then there are set ups to take into account. If you have a Wacom, then forget touchbar. You have the distance of the tablet and laptop between you and the touchbar. The last thing you want to do is try to read that tiny screen from that far.

If you use clamshell mode or a large professional monitor, then forget touchbar too. Unless Apple sticks it on a wired keyboard.

They should have added a newer Intel processor and more RAM instead of removing critical ports. And yet, it costs 500$ more. Unbelievable arrogance, blindness and greed.

Not to worry as I am sure Apple will do the above this Spring!

I am also disappointed but Apple goes their own way. Unfortunately I am finding it harder to follow them on my next laptop.

Well at least I found the touch bar buttons in calculator useful. Instead of finding and pressing /=+-., which is all over the keyboard, they are now easily located above the number row.

Of course you can just get an external keyboard, and I agree, but for on the go, the touchbar method seems to be better.

I can image there will be more useful stuff like this.

Everything I read said that Lightroom does not use the GPU until I found this link:
https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/lightroom-gpu-faq.html

I ordered the 2.7/455 combo because I didn't think I needed the 460 for Lightroom. I'll definitely be okay for now. Whether or not it'll work well 3-6 years from now will depend on Adobe.

EDIT: Looks like Lightroom has used the GPU since April 2015! https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1828580

Now I'm starting to regret not spending the $100 to upgrade to the 460!
