Hi guys - Ordered a new Hi-res MBP for my girlfriend as a birthday present.

Just wondering if this is a normal route when ordering online? Seems very convoluted. This is the info from the UPS tracking site. (not sure why its been to China and back)??

Also, what recourse do I have if the product arrives damage? Do I go to an Apple store or do I need to deal with the online guys?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds quite normal to me. If it arrives damaged (highly unlikely), you should deal with the online store as that is where you bought it from.

great thank you both for your reply's but have ups gone nuts??? they have now taken it from shanghai, to korea, to cologne, to kazakhstan, to warsaw, and now back in cologne ready for dispatch to london???? Blimey talk about carbon footprint!!!!!!!!!

Mine did a bit of a circuit before reaching the UK too. Thereafter, it did a 300 mile round trip before it arrived at my door. Funny thing was that I only live 10 miles away from Heathrow Airport where it entered the country.

Backtracking of packages happens when flights are full, or get cancelled/delayed for whatever reason.

Also, you have to be careful when reading the UPS scans, they are local time (ditto FedEx). Sometimes it appears that packages have been to the same destination multiple times, when they have not. UPS scans like maniacs. Sometimes their scans are not timely, the time you see the scan may be the time it was reported (called a dump).
