Can the fabulous owners of the new MBPs on this board please post to confirm that they don't have user-replaceable hard drives, a la the Macbooks?

Having gone through 5 faulty Macbooks last year, I came to rely on the fact that the Macbook allows you to just take our your drive and whack it in a new machine if needs be... so whilst I'm tempted to jump the gun now on these new models, the cautious part of my brain is telling me to wait until the chassis gets updated to allow the hard drive to be easily replaced by the user...

If you visibly damage your computer while replacing the hard drive, then it will void your warranty. The hard drive is not technically "user-serviceable."

That said, if you're really careful and treat every part lovingly, there's no way that any AppleCare or Apple service person is going to be able to tell that you swapped out the hard drive. Of course, if you wanted to have repair work done you'd have to switch the original hard drive back in but there isn't a sticker or something so that Apple would know that you took it apart.

I wouldn't recommend the operation to anyone without some experience or technical know-how, though, because if anything did go wrong you'd be up a creek without a paddle. AppleCare people wouldn't service it.

I know it's not impossible for a user to do the swap themselves, but I've read the (old C2D) MBP service manual, and it doesn't look like something I could really be bothered doing, although if it became absolutely necessary I spose I'd give it a crack...

I also suppose that if I did want it changed, I could just take it into an Apple store and ask them to do it for me...
