New MBP Question?

when i turn on or wake from a sleep the drive makes a really obnoxious loud noise is this normal?? thanks this is my first laptop so i dont really know what to expect?? thank you

which drive? the hard drive or optical drive? Don't think I've experienced any loud noise from waking.

Yea that's normal. It's like a screechy type sound.

The noises in the above link are considered "normal." If you're is different, it MAY be a sign of a problem.

if its the optical drive then its normal.

if that noise sounds like a drive starting up, then its normal, if not you may have a problem, take it to the apple store and have them look at it.(if you got applecare ^.^)

I have a similar sound. I think it's the optical drive and normal.

My old Penryn MBP that I returned for exchange made a really low pitch sound when starting up instead of normal pitch as listed on Apple site or on their display MBP at the stores. I didn't care much as it had other problems but that surprised me, wonder if the optical drive was somewhat defective

I must say, the optical drive of my MBP sounds like the cinema when I was watching Cloverfield.
