Yeah, new retina MBP here, and I'm pretty sure Chrome Canary is the issue (but it might be crashing with the normal release as well, just haven't been using it).

It's definitely crashing for me with the regular release build. Roughly every three or four hours now, although none at all for the first few days.

Upgraded to Chrome beta...

...and it's still crashing. Was watching a video on ESPN.com this afternoon and crashed the machine.

This is the version of Chrome I upgraded to: Version 20.0.1132.41 beta

Still haven't had the issue using Safari or Firefox.

mine crashed a couple times while using canary chrome. i stopped using it and used safari. no more crashes.

Try erasing the hard drive and reloading the OS. To do that hold down command + R at reboot. Go to disk utility to erase, and reinstall the OS.
I had a couple of crashes with my new 15" retina pro as I had migrated from a time capsule backup of a computer that had been migrated from another mac. Just back up all your docs, programs, media, etc. Don't reload those old unused programs. It solved my crashes and has been perfect since for 4 days now..

Today I installed Chrome Canary and in the last 3 hours I had 2 crashes with both having similar reports as posted here. If it will happen again I might stop using the canary build.

I haven't installed Chrome due to these reports but I haven't had a crash happen yet.

Wow. My computer has been crashing too, 2-3 times daily and each time while I was using Chrome off the Developer channel.

gg Google. I guess this is how you're getting Apple back for using their own maps, by making every ***** version of your browser freeze up. Cool.

Okay, I think others in this thread are right. The problem is Chrome (Stable, Canary, Dev) is having a problem with the HD4000 card. I noticed I was always crashing while doing something in Chrome, but never while I was playing anything like Diablo 3.

I turned off automatic graphics card switching (this forces discrete graphics at all times) and I have not experienced any freezes since. So until Google gets its act together, that's one work around.

Hello,

Has anyone else had any issues with their MBP Retina crashing? I've been using it for about 2 hours and it's crashed three time while simply surfing the web using Chrome. I get a screen that says the computer will restart on its own or I can by hitting any key. It then asks if I want to send Apple a report about the issue (see below). Anyone else experiencing this?

Used to have this A LOT on various Macs. In my case, it was Parallels or VMWare (tried both, both produced constant kernel panics, even when they weren't running as the kernel extension is loaded during boot-up anyway).

Peter

Espn (UEFA) on chrome crashed mine several times too. No problems on safari.

I've had a 13" since Monday, and I use Chrome exclusively. I've had no problems whatsoever--if anything, it shows that the problem might be limited to certain machines. Take it in...

I suppose no one reads any threads or does a search.

It has been established that the retina MBP has issues with Chrome. So for now, stop using Chrome.

There's no way you genuinely think Google are purposely putting bugs in their releases. Nobody can possibly be that naïve... or at least, I hope so :(

Canary is a dev build. Of course there are going to be bugs in it.

Nah I don't think it's on purpose.
The bug isn't just in Canary, but in all 4 distributions.

Hey guys my first post here! Bought my rMBP today and it's also my first Mac. I also crashed, however, within 30 minutes of installing and using Canary. Only about 2 hours of actual use on the laptop.

Same Issue PLEASE HELP

My new MacBook Pro Retina 15" crashes at least 2-3 daily and it doesn't seem to be directly tied to a particular program. Here is my latest crash report. Any help decipher it would be greatly appreciated.

Any updates? I am just at eight days with my base model rMBP. I love this machine, but have had (just starting today) crashes running iTunes and iPhoto. I only use Safari to browse the internet, with no crashes there.

I really want to keep this rMBP, but I just don't know after I have seen two crashes in the past couple hours of use.

Today would have been day 14 of no crashes since purchase (that I know of anyways, at least this is the only one in 'system diagnostic reports'), but I had a kernel panic this morning while working in parallels (not using chrome, canary or otherwise).

Parallels has kernel extensions. So you cannot blame Mac OS for the crash. Any memory errors in kernel extensions will lead to crashes, unless the page fault is triggered by virtual memory commit.

mine crashed twice so far since i got it last thursday. I use chrome as well. Not the canary build though. Hope Mountain Lion fixes this ****.

I have had my rMBP for 2 weeks now and i have had canary on it the whole time and havent had my system crash once, so I'm wondering if there is another issue going on here, I also have about 97 gigs used up on my system mostly of programs and haven't had issues with anything else so this seems a little weird to me.

Have had a couple of crashes using Chrome (Dev build, not Canary), it's always been when I've closed a tab it freezes for a second then I get a kernel panic. At least it only takes a few seconds to reboot!

... Sigh, have some more kool-aid there eh

Guess those with chrome crashing can't blame osx either? Shall we sit here with no software installed staring at our desktops?
