Just bought a new MBP, a 13" base model.
The firewire 800 port works fine.
The USB ports work fine.
The 1st software update was huge, but after the reboots all is fine.
The screen works fine, no dead pixels.
It is only slightly warmer than my 2009 13" MBP.
Firefox, Google Chrome, and Opera have no issues.
It connects fine to the FIOS network.

Moral: Just because there are seemingly many many MBPs with issues, the average user will not have problems. I think newbies look at the forums and think MBPs and Macs in general are trouble prone and have lots of issues right out of the box. It is inevitable that with millions of Macs sold there will be a certain percentage that have issues, but this does not mean that you are going to get a bad one.

People come to forums because they are having issues. Not many post just to say that all is well with their new MBP.

Generally Macs are trouble free but I've just had my MBP 2008 model replaced with a new 2011 15" model under AppleCare as five repairs didn't cure the faults. I'm happy though with this beauty I've now got, a 2011 15" top spec!
