I feel the little shock/buzzing also. This is not your imagination. Most of the time though I don't notice it but when I do pay attention I do. It doesn't bother me at all.

Of course there is a little bit of a current. Your finger acts as a virtual ground to tell the touch pad where your finger is. Hence a nonconducting material will not work on a touch pad.

Don't worry though, the level is not harmful and definitely will not be hazardous to your body.

When I feel my fingers getting numb, especially along the nerve tunnels, I find it hard to believe that it is not harmful in the long term...
For my part, I just stopped using these devices. Problem solved.
