I just purchased an M2 based MBP which is running Ventura 13.2.

The screensaver is set to default (orange) and require password is set to "After 5 seconds".

Two monitors are connected: via USB-C and via HDMI.

8 times out of 10, when I go to unlock the screen, the Touch ID screen momentarily shows up and disappears. If I place my finger on the Touch ID sensor it doesn't unlock the screen.

Trying to use the keyboard or trackpad to login doesn't work either.

I'm having to:

- Close the computer lid
- Unplug the monitors from the MBP
- Wait 15 sec
- Open the lid
- Use Touch ID or login via the keyboard
- Plug the monitors back in

This is quite a lot of steps to do every time the screen locks (dozens of times a day).

Is there a way around this?

Do you have an actual need to have it go to password/lock in only 5 seconds of no activity?
Can you set that interval to something longer, that might be easier to deal with? Maybe 5 minutes would be better?
(That would result in much fewer of those unlocks that you have now...)
I know that doesn't fix your issue, but may make it be easier for you.

Thanks .. yes I've increased it to a longer time for now, which is not ideal.

I am in a shared working environment and some of the work I have is sensitive, and I'm required to have a locked screen.

Yes .. I tried an external and I was able to type in my password and it goes immediately back into locked screensaver mode. 🤷‍♂️

"The screensaver is set to default (orange) and require password is set to "After 5 seconds""

Change "5 seconds" to something longer.
How about 5 minutes (or something like that)?

There are a few known issues in the latest Ventura/Monterey builds regarding the login window. One temporary fix: delete ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow.plist and reboot

Thanks everyone .. I experimented with things a bit and disabled the screensaver. I am now just putting the display to sleep instead and so far it's working.🤞

I will try deleting the plist file as well to compare.
