My order page looks a little different in that its no longer a preorder, but no estimated shipping date.

When will your items arrive?
Not Yet Shipped:
Delivery estimate: We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date. You can cancel at any time.

And I was hitting refresh on Amazon all day waiting for the models to show up; I ordered as soon as they did.

Loaded isn't quite loaded without the 16MB of RAM. Wish Amazon carried more builds of each model, but I'm guessing those are they only two they'll have.

I'd imagine that they're only selling the models that all resellers will carry, while, as always, the crazy models will be built to order from Apple.

Has anyone gotten a shipping confirmation from Amazon.com yet for either model?

They were never actually in stock at Amazon, only pre-order status and temporarily out of stock so based on other retailers shipping times it's doubtful orders will ship from Amazon for at least 1-2 weeks.

I was able to place a preorder at Best Buy. And they seem to think the units will arrive in the next day or two. Oddly they didn't require payment up front. That's nice in a way, but the downside is that it makes me easy to bump. Anyway, I'm #4 on their list and they have 5 units on their way. But I wouldn't bet more than 50% on it working out.

You can scale the retina display to different resolutions, including 1680x1050 and 1920x1200.

... and at first glance, everything looked very good despite non-native resolution.

I think that's the right attitude to take with it. I think you're right that these kinds of things have no guarantees.

Well, it's easy to say the right things. Inside, my silent rage burns hotter with every second that passes without getting my hands on this fancy new toaster with a multi-frequency fan. (Actually, on a serious note, the new design looks like it is *great* for air circulation in closed clamshell mode. Unfortunately, if anybody actually uses it in closed clamshell mode, they deserve to be thrown in jail, because why buy this machine if you don't want the screen?)

Why would you not order from Apple using the education discount? 200 off plus a 100 dollar iTunes card.

Haha, good call on so many issues. I'm giddy about that fan actually, want to hear a hum or purr instead of a whine. I'm also extremely skeptical about the speaker quality, so I'll be happy to test that out a bit. I will not be using this in closed clamshell, but I do plan on driving an external monitor for real estate reasons.

Anyone's shipped yet from Amazon?

I only have 1 day off per week and doubt I will make it to the apple store first thing in the morning for a while.

I ordered on Amazon today, If they get it in the next week or so then with Prime one-day shipping I should be in pretty good shape. But I figure if one day its in stock at one of my apple stores and I get there in time then I can just go on a computer right there in the store and cancel my amazon order.

Just letting people know my order from amazon just shipped, the base 2.3GHz $2,200 model. I ordered with one day prime so should come Monday darn weekend.

Out of curiosity when did you place your order?

I'd say about an hour or two after they went on preorder on amazon. I remember seeing it right before coming home from visiting my sisters house and thinking I would think about ordering it when I got home. I was conflicted because I had about $1,000 in amazon gift cards but I also got approved for 12 month financing at the apple store plus I would get the $100 gift card.

When I ended up getting home I went online maybe 30 minutes later saw the apple store went from 5-7 days to 2-3 weeks I believe it was so quick preordered on amazon.

So yeah sorry for the rambling about and hour or 2 after I first saw it and I was refreshing quite a bit on amazon and apple.

Check out my recent thread in the market place if you want to save a bit of cash on your amazon purchase..

With that being said, I love amazon and their customer service and best of all no sales tax!

Ah. well sadly a couple days before me. I'm guessing I will still be waiting a while.

Well congrats! Enjoy monday!

Turns out to be quite amazing at driving a thunderbolt display with mirroring—uses HIDPI mode to make non-native resolutions look sharp on T-Bolt. Same thing it does with 1920x1200 it does to Tbolt. BUT it only does it in mirroring mode, at least so far.

Also, closed clamshell mode works like a charm. I had to try it (got lucky witha unit at best buy).

Fans really are quiet. You can definitely hear them when they spin up, but way way way less likely to spin way up than on my old MBP.

I don't see how this avoids sales tax. You still have to pay sales tax.
