Resolved New message notification won’t go away

i have a little number 1 on my message icon as if I have a new message. I don’t. It goes away when I shut off notifications but will come back when I turn them back on. Rebooting the phone with notifications off doesn’t help. Do I need to reinstall iOS or something? Hoping for a much easier solution.

Saw this on someone else's phone. When I swipe-quit Messages, restart Messages, a text message was sitting there marked as unread.

Would guess phone restart should clear that, but, never know. An option to try at least.

If it continues showing up regardless, it sounds like a server side issue that will probably resolved on its own. I remember pre-release iOS 12 betas having this issue over the summer/fall.

Who knows though, really.

That didn't work but guess what did? Noticing that I had a new junk text message. I usually get junk texts like regular texts but this one was in the junk section of the messages. Oh well, thanks for everyone's help....feel a little silly.....
