Just reading the thread on the rumoured update to the MobileMe service and it got me thinking of the huge potential benefit for the :apple: TV. Particulary with regards to the no storage 2nd generation version.

If, we get the cloud based, free, MobileMe then the opportunities for Apple TV are incredible.. espeially those of us who have compiled a shed load of GB's of movies, music and TV shows over the years with our 1st Gen Apple TV's.

Just imagine you wouldnt need iTunes open on your mac and you could take the apple tv on holidays or on business around the world and access all your content :D how sweet would that be?

That would require a lot of bandwidth.

I'd be happy if I could get content streaming properly from my TC/Airdisk to my ATV2 both on my home network.

I thought the plan wasn't for Apple to host your content, but for MobileMe to allow you to call back to your Mac and draw content from there. Your idea still works I think, in that you will be able to take your ATV (either generation, btw) with you and - as long as you have broadband access - play your media wherever you happen to be.

I don't like the idea of cloud-based storage and all devices streaming from there. If I travel abroad I don't want to have to stream music, for example, and on the flight going over there's unlikely to be broadband access anyway. I want a decent amount of onboard storage, at least for the handhelds.

I could see them offering your iTunes purchased content via streaming if your a MobileMe subscriber. You're not going to be able to upload massive amounts of personal videos to MobileMe though.
