I have been running an old Comcast Motorola modem for years.
Now they want to send me a new updated one.
    OK
    But - I see, I am renting it for $8 a month.
What would be my best choice for a modem to purchase (for home)?
Simple - 1 Mac and 1 Mackbook Pro
both connected with Airport Express units.

Thank you very much for suggestions,

I have a Motorola Surfboard SB6121 and it's great. I've been using it for five years with absolutely no problems. You might not be able to find the 6121 now, but both the 6131 and 6141 are out now.

Also ask or check your ISP Support pages and see the list of supported modems. Plus is your ISP using D.O.S.I.S. 3 or 2 for their supported cable modems?

Moto SB6121 or SB6141. The 6141 costs a bit more, but can handle higher speed tiers. Call Comcast and ask which of the two you will need for your subscribed speed.

Both are on Comcast's approved list.

Also, look at this forum for Comcast users comments.
