I don't think so. But the opening of a new Mac is a different experience than the opening of a refurb Mac, I have to admit, all because of the awesome packaging.

I think in the end this is another reason I went with the 13". Although I am sure I could tell no difference to a refurb, for my first Mac and for what I needed, I crave that new Mac experience at least once :D

I bought a 15" UMBP for work shortly after they came out last year and thought that the 15" size would be too big for my liking (previously had a whitebook). I wouldn't have it any other way now. I can't use the 13" anymore - seems like a netbook to me now. ...course I played around on a 17" the other day and now the 15" seems small! It's amazing how Apple can make a crazy big notebook seem sleek. Any Dell or HP laptop that was 16 or 17" that I've played around with in the past seemed like a massive bulk-monster.

Anyway, liking the 15" UMBP so much it was time to upgrade the house computer about a month ago we thought iMac was the way to go but also wanted portability so ultimately we decided on a refurb 15". $1349 for the 2.4 ghz -- exactly the one I paid almost $2000 for a few months ago.

It arrived 5 days later and looks NICER than my ultra-babied MBP that I bought new. Not a scratch on it, hinge is perfect, no dead pixels. Beautiful.

AND the software discs were Leopard 10.5.6 but with iLife 09 -- not a drop in iLife disk. SO I'm thinking that it wasn't even manufactured that long ago. Had to be a return at a store because as I said it's in perfect condition.

I would definitely buy a refurb again and for $600 off that was a deal...
